When people say their conversion of their landing page is this or that. Is that the conversion of hwo many poeple visited to the number of poeple that made a purchase or is it the conversion of the number of poeple that entered their email to the number of sales that have been made? What kind of things do u track when making a landing page and working wiht it to make it better?
Conversion means an action was taken. Usually conversion means that the action taken was a purchase. However, an action can be something like getting a lead to signup for a double opt-in to a newsletter.
Once you get to a comfortable level, you should start testing things such as your headline and your call to action. Basically you should be testing different elements of your landing page, and/or sales letter. One simple change could lead to higher subscription rate, or more sales. But you'll never know you until you start tracking and testing.
Yes, it is very useful to track the landing page elements, if you wanna test which is the key element to increase the sales or the subscripation, keep doing it ,and ajust it then you can get boost!

so what kind of conversions are people getting talking about visitors to sale made? some people say they have a conversion rate of 50 % for landing page. That is just people optin in,... not making a sale.. right? Why don't people talk about conversions of the page to a sale? Is the reason that they don't talk about that is because once the person opts in, it then falls in the e-mail marketing section to how well your autoresponder message is to weather you are going to make a sale or not... right? So whats a good conversion going from landing page to optin then from e-mail link to sale?
Tracking and testing go hand in hand. Do not do one and not the other or you are doing nothing but wasting your time. The reason you track is to see where on a page the customer clicked. From that info you can get a good idea of what keywords are working best. For example, if using one of those long sales pages that takes 10 minutes to scroll down, you better have roughly 10 places that a customer can click on for your call to action. It might be just a url to your product, or maybe alt text, or maybe an image. So if you see that nobody is clicking on an early link, it could mean that you are holding their interest, which is good. That means your copy is good. On the other hand, people clicking on an early link might mean that you have targeted your audience very well and that they are in the buying mode. If no links are getting clicked, you have big problems.) It is kind of hard to explain, but that should give you a good idea of why testing and tracking is necessary.
