Yahoo dropping their Directory from home page, adds it to Altavista.com

What do you guys think of Yahoo's new homepage not linking to the directory? It's a big change, assuming it's permanent. Directory links definitely won't carry as much oomph without the kick-ass link from Yahoo.com (28,000,000 inbound links to the homepage).

It appears they added a link to dir.yahoo.com on Altavista, possibly as a consolation for losing the Yahoo link. Altavista is of course a powerful domain, with over 2 million inbound links and a Pagerank of 9, but it's no Yahoo.

While the new page was optional for a while, the New Yahoo seems to appear by default now, I checked with a few spider simulators and they're returning results from the new Yahoo. MSN is no longer showing Yahoo.com as a link to dir.yahoo.com, Altavista is the #1 backlink now.

If you're horribly bored, I posted more about Yahoo's homepage changes on my blog.

You're still seeing the directory on Yahoo's home page? From what I can tell, the new Yahoo homepage (without directory links) is being rolled out as the default.
