All of you people who don't think it's important are very wrong, how do you think a blog's importance is measured when you are selling it? RSS reader numbers, alexa and PageRank, those are the 3 main things that people look for when they are buying a blog. PageRank should be important to anyone who is in business on the web.
The point needs to be made though that the marketing community at large know that PR is worthless and 90% of website buyers will not increase the value of their bid based on PR. It really has no bearing on traffic whatsoever. But bear in mind that it shouldn't be dismissed. Google could change everything again tomorrow.
I think PR still very important, as I found some websites with PR6 without any keyword anchor texts, rank pretty well for cerain keywords. I may be wrong.
It doesn't matter if pr10 becomes impossible to get so long as the pr you have is higher than your competition!
I would be more interested in how much money the site is making, how many unique visitors the site gets, and where it ranks for particular keywords. Alexa rankings are another anomaly, as there are a lot of blackhat ways to improve your rank. Let's not go there! Kevin
So statistically, PR could be going down simply because the number of listed sites goes up each year, saturating the pot. The more sites, the less can be 10, but some will still be 10. The less sites, the less can (even thought they were) 10.
it's not about how many sites are there. it's about the relative difference between the highest ranked site and individual sites. sites like Google.com and Yahoo.com can continuously getting high quality links. if smaller sites do not increase their links at the same pace, the gap keeps increasing. Google will always give the top site a PR10. This means the increasing gap will push down PR's of smaller sites. for real quality sites, PR was never an issue. http://mostlyeconomics.wordpress.com/ is run by a guy who knows nothing about SEO or PR and yet the blog is a PR6. if you read the blog, you will know why it is a PR6......
I think pr is relative so there will always be a pr 10 site, if there isn't than it wouldnt be on a 10 scale anymore, 4 would become the new 10
PR issue again... PR crisis.... I have never seen any sites that has a PR of 10... is it really possible...
to get high pr like pr 7 or above is difficult, upto pr 6 is achievable, u can check my sig. link for reference.
