I'm using phpld and I'm having a big problem with spammers submitting crappy sites to irrelevant categories. I get about 100 of these per day...99% of which are from a guy with this email:
Has anyone else had a problem with this guy? if so how did you stop him?

Why not add image verification or make it so they have to confirm each link submission through email?

I have tried the image verification and somehow the spam sites keep flowing in.

Yeah, I get all of those non-deliverable email messages too. My inbox is crowded enough as it is.

I googled his email address and found this thread on the phpld site. I guess the route to go is banning his ip range

Yes “anubis” is the SPAM master…
Probably is using some script or automated submission service.
I create a “nofollow” for all this spam submissions form “anubis” and others…

To keep a spam-free directory you need to be able to ban and deprioritise by email address, keywords, and domain as well as IP. I don't know how many of these features phpld has, but you could always request them for future versions.

well, if just use a simple captcha, as long as the SPAMER has the correct tool/knowledge, it is not difficult to be overcame. However, we can use complex captcha + intelligent questions to prevent SPAM.

Well this guy is spamming in my reciprocal link directories as well and the submissions are real crap unfit for consideration

I have put a code in my script so that no one can post again within 48 hours with the same email. However the spammers use some random generated emails wasting our time.

I have this problem with chinese guys aswell..

In that case it might be useful to throttle submissions by email domain (surely they can't have that many domains?) and also insist that the email matches the domain name that's submitted.
