Where has FireFox gone wrong?

Is it just me or has the quality of FireFox (FF) gone completely down hill? Some of my current irritations include:

    • When closing FF doesn't close and still runs in the background
    • It remembers my passwords mostly however doesn't retain the information - hence i get logged out between payments
    • I can't use any of my banking sites as as soon as I'm logged in, the security settings seem to sign me out again.

Where has it all gone wrong... i might have to consider going back to IE!

This is a problem with firefox, which is very annoying because even killing the process, it keeps the memory: /
But Firefox is still the best browser, with opera

    That's most likely it.

I personally LOVE firefox A LOT.
With all the different addons they have it's just so versatile. Not to mention safe.

Once I was using google chrome(when it first came out) searching pictures in google. So I found one I liked and clicked it. All of a sudden it told me it was downloading something! I was like WTF! It didn't even ask me to confirm or anything.

That was the last time I ever used chrome lol.

Exactly. Firefox does NOT do this for everyone or no one would use it. The OP needs to fix his system, perhaps reinstall Windows or FF, rather than blame FF.

No its not just you... The performance and stability varies from OS to OS. I'm ok on my home machine, but crappy at work. That said, I use Safari more at work. Going to IE IMO would be worse than either.

Interesting you say that - i reinstalled my computer from scratch last week, having installed the latest FF version, these are the problems i'm experiencing.

Any ideas what Facebook and Google Analytics sites run on as these seem very glitchy as well - just installed directx ... any other suggestions?

    Random!

My FF still stays running when I close it, too. So it's not an individual problem.

FF has too much hype. I actually prefer IE8, and am currently between them, until I get used to the IE interface again.

3.5.0 and 3.5.1 seems to just absorb more and more memory the longer it's running (I've had it using up to 4GB og ACTUAL [not virtual] memory) and it starts running terribly slow. Maybe keeping every page you ever visited in memory and never clearing it out or something?

I found myself restarting Firefox every few hours when the slowness got too bad (clicking a link takes 2 seconds to register for example).

I just upgraded to 3.5.2, so maybe they fixed it... we'll see in a few hours.

I am on my 7th day since this computer has been turned off. Firefox running continuously all that time. Current usage: 188Mb. And that's high for me. Fix your system and quit blaming FF.

One thing I have noted (on the Mac) when it does this, there is almost ALWAYS an update in the background waiting to be installed. I typically will force quit the app and restart it only to find the "updates are available" dialog pop up. Do an install, restart and it runs fine again until there are more updates.

For my PC firefox is taking too much resource. Although i like the latest 2.5.2 version which is more stable than it's prior release.

Previous version was a damn pain in the ass for me, it crashed too much, was very slow, hanged my pc alot....but now there is improvement.

I use Firefox 3.0.13 and it's a lot better than the new ones.
