One night I got a bit frustrated working with adsense. I'm down to the days where its a serious choice between gas or groceries. I thinking heck... I've been trapped in my bedroom for the last three days because I can't afford to drive my car with the gas prices. Anyone else out there feeling me? So I've been scrapping the internet trying to make change over the last few months. I found some - but nothing that ended up being quite. Maybe about $300 doing a couple different things. Not including the insane amount time I put into trying to get a successful website off the ground under the Adsense program! That is a bit tough out the gate Well, I'm interested to know how your days are going. I decided to blog off about it on my Blog Gas or Groceries. Don't worry, I'm not trying to shamelessly plug my site... There aren't any ads running on my site. It's just an outlet to vent under if your unemployed. Sometimes reading other people's stories, can make our own not seem so bad. If life is struggle for you between Gas or Groceries. Come See me! Gas or Groceries
Shanne Firstly I'm sorry to hear of your predicament and wish you all the best in turning things around. One word of caution - if you are using Adsense or any other means of making money on the net you are "self-employed" not "un-employed" As you use the word "gas" I assume you are in the USA. I can't speak for the USA but in the UK if you are self employed and dont declare earning but are claiming any form of unemployment benefits that can lead to a lot of trouble.
Honestly, I would first look for a serious job and do adsense in all the spare time that you have. There is no guarantee in the internet world.
Hey Thanks for Luck WhiteSpider, I am in the US. Unemployment laws are different and vary by State." I didn't make any earnings utilizing adsense so there was nothing to report.
AdSense didn't work out for me. I was one of the many who were banned without real explanation. But I digress.
people always complain about gas prices, instead of changing their habbits. its summer, i can use my bike to go to work or visit some places in the city. ok, i need 10 or 15 minutes more on my way home than with a car, but this way i get some training and dont get fat like i probably would if i use the car all the time. and i only spent ~20$ on petrol over the last 4 weeks, and there is still enought petrol left in my car for another 2 or 3 weeks (small car with a 4cyl engine).
FalconDriver, be thankful you have the conveinences that you do... Some people don't have the same conveinences... There are lot of different variables to what you've mentioned - I guess it depends on what you drive (bigger engines take more gas and sports cars generally require premium for best performance), where you live (living in the middle on no where - you may or may not be willing to ride 50 or 60 miles on your daily commute), and the price of gas (4cyl $25... 8 cyl $62 or more) Lot's of different variable.
Okay if you have a sports car, you shouldn't have to decide weather or not to buy groceries or gas. You're obviously living outside of your means (if you do) and I think it'd be time to put that up for sale and downgrade to an economy. If you're looking to get from point A to point B, why would you need premium gas? Sounds like wasted money that could be used to put towards buying food. Earning money online isn't as easy as people make it seem, they just forget the hours and hours of work they put into their websites to make them power. If you're not willing to devote every second of spare time you have to get one started, you probably won't make very much.
Web is not the safest way to make money you know? Why don't find a job? Btw you people in usa really can't complain on gas prices, here in Croatia the average salary is 600$ and gas is 1,5$ for one liter. p.l.u.r.
You'd be surprised to find out just how many members here have overcome some extreme "in-conveniences" in life before making quite a bit with adsense (and other webstuff).
Travis - Just because one might have a vehicle that has a big engine, doesn't necessarily mean that they are living above their means. Your ideology of premium gas in the concept of getting from point A to point B has nothing to do with the route traveled and how desperate one might be to get there. It's a matter of what the engine will accept to keep it running clean and smoothly, cars that take lower octane gasoline e.g. 4 cyl, have good gas mileage however, don't perform as well over time. Be careful when you trade the witch for the devil. And I do realize those gasoline in the States compared to what some other countries are paying may appear low. However, every place has a "Cost of Living" in their particular region. For what the cost of living is where I'm from, $3 is extremely high. We have people here, who are quitting jobs because they can't afford the commute to and from work. Gas can eat up most of the paycheck. Specifically the state I live in is known as the Road Construction capitol of the world, pushing the consumption of gas by consumers even higher!
hey, i read your blog - woah - my heart bleeds! i feel like donating for your cause. but then i remember - i've been unemployed since Oct 05!! 10 moths to the day!!
get a job, then focus on adsense on the side. If it gets to be enough for a full time job, then make that decision. It's a tough market to get started in from scratch though.
Unfortunately, the job market here in the states sucks. Especially in my State, it has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. I've been job hunting and interviewing for quite a while. Ever see the movie Fun With Dick and Jane. We he heard about the job interview, and when he got there, there was like 500 hundred people already ahead of him.... Tough...
It doesn't matter how many people are applying for the job if you have the talent for the job and know how to sell yourself. If you're really that broke there is no shortage of jobs available in retail, fast food and restaurants. Some money is better than no money.

(that's from my site though, not a blog!)
Even those jobs are hard to get if you're "overqualified." Companies view you as a flight risk and don't want to invest in you because they think/know you will live the minute your opportunity knocks. With so many people here that actually are qualified for the fast food/retail jobs they tend to take them first because they know that person will be a little more loyal to the company. Turnover is high. So that works to the disadvantage of the "Overqualified" You can't even lie on your resume as say you don't have the experience. They will find out you lied and fire you anyway for dishonesty.
