    Hi,

Let's say you want a 3 stars hotel in Chicago and I have a hotel in that city.

    How will you search...

    1- hotel
    2- hotel chicago
    3- 3 stars hotel
    4- 3 stars hotel chicago

On the other hand, what is my best keyword for your search?

Number 1 is very wide and will get a lot of results. My hotel will be lost in the volume but if my keyword is 3 star hotel chicago, I will be very close to top of first page.

This is a short exemple but it shows you that long tail is best not for volume but for quality and success.

I like longtail. There are some pretty valuable and you can usually get a few target ones per domain if you do it right.

You guys don't even have to go long-tail. Just find good keywords with high average search volumes and little optimized competition. I've found an entire MARKET I'm going to start a business in with my inheritance money that I can dominate with great 1-3 word search phrases that get a lot of searches per month, have next to nobody (well, nobody important anyway) competing in the market online (and by competing, I mean actually optimizing their Web sites), and - this is the most important part - are ready to buy online.

And no, I'm not telling which market.

impressive im really it is ...... this part here ((good keywords with high average search volumes and little optimized competition)) - ive been using the keyword tracker tools for FF browser to dial in on thiose high search terms... but what tool do you use to do that part little optimized competition because I can Locate keywords with high average search volumes with the free version...... so maybe using Google to do the search for the volume associated to that term I come with that analysis gees I answered my own question..... when ever Dan is here I just get smarter lol :)

yeah true long tail can get seo's in deep water as well .... because the engines change to quick... that long t5ail phrase is still never accurate enoughf I totally agree with Dan..... I never ever never use triple phareses in the Titlels only in the keyword meta .... not only that longtail can be seen as keyword stuffing too .... do you agree

By and large, the search engines IGNORE the META keywords tag, so you'll be doing no good by trying to optimize it.

As for long-tail, they are worth targeting, but don't forget the other search phrases as well.

having long tail keyword + related keywords combination can make sites search engine friendly and I always use it because targeting for the main keyword or 2 phrases keyword seems so hard and stressing.. :)

This is a perfect example-we use long-tail frequently for our auto dealership websites. Most helpful for super popular content sites.

I just started creating a few websites and I have had better success with long-tail keywords for search engine ranking. One of my keywords were movie downloads. I tried ranking for it...haha what a joke...waste of time.

Where to put the keywords? The same places I've been saying for a couple years now. Your page titles, headings, CONTENT, image alt and title attributes, and your link anchor text.
