@aaron .. you may have logs of every member.. may be not but if you have than randomly select a newbie and please check and tell me how many time he/she used the search option in BST

Let me explain you by a example..

Daedric started a thread about a year ago ..
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1079785

Honestly, he is a better Article writer and Submitter than me and I always give him my big orders!

Now why this thread was still active because the last post was on July 30th!

After new Change .. His thread is on Page 407th (Do you think any buyer will see his thread?)

    LoL asbestos :p

This rule will only encourage blackhat spammers, period !
If all the buyers were like you, shawn, nimocks, the mods then I'd agree !!!

But they aren't smart as you guys are. Cos they are just like nomads. They come, buy and then disappear.

They won't have the patience to sit and go through 579 pages of BST !

And announcements, reducing bin's and similar stuff in a thread are not bumping or spam...

Short and meaningless, worthless sentences or phrases are.

OK, I searched of "article submission" in BST section. I got 747 results in total. Now, on what basis the rankings of search results are given?

If there is no criteria to define rankings, that's hell.
If there's any criteria to define rankings, please list them all :)

There are a *few* cases where that might be true, but 95% of the "announcements and BiN reduction" and just sneaky ways to try and bump a thread without posting "bumping thread".

ie... most people already know what the future "announcements" or "price reductions" are going to be when the thread is created. If that's truly your concern, maybe we should look at letting you edit the original post (since you wrote it wrong to begin with if you have to "announce" changes to it), then give people the ability to see the post change history to prevent scamming (writing one thing, then changing it after the fact).

You can sort them however you want.

LoL Shawn man the search feature with all the advanced stuffs is like one scientific calculator for a newbie in case if he ever discovers the search feature itself :p

Anyways how about a flippa-like marketplace - paid yet nominal prices ???

Will Spencer's tech faq proxy list was free back then but now it's paid. Good revenue, no duplicate listing, fair and share to everyone !!!

It depends on what option you select on the advanced search.

Here are the options you can return the results in.

    Relevancy
    Title
Number of Replies - I choose this when looking for the best services
Number of Views - I choose this when looking for the best services
    Thread Start Date
    Last Posting Date
    User Name
    Forum

The default I believe is last posting date though.

Do you have to give away your secrets? No. But you post and contribute to the community to build your visibility. I ran a PR firm for years, so I know quite well what simple exposure can do for you online. If you're not willing to do that by adapting, then the new BST setup isn't for you. C'est la vie.

I like the changes, but i think this will also encourage members to open duplicate threads with slight changes to their sales pitch.

Fortunately though, they'll be easier for us to find and eliminate than bump posts are. We could have dozens of bumps in a single thread, whereas the number of threads themselves would be much lower (and easier to scan to wipe out obvious ones more quickly).

    Dear jhmattern,

You have received an infraction at Digital Point Forums.

    Reason: Inappropriate Language
    -------
This is an English only board.
    -------

This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

Edit: Infraction reversed so I also reversed. :p

I think most likely you got the infraction in social group?

I think there is such rule in social group.

    I'm not discussing that here.
The rules never existed when the posts were made.;)

Not many people know all these things. This will for sure kill the BST forums.
I am sure this will be back to normal in the next few weeks.
    Till then just wait! :)

Pros don't and can't think to the level of the general users. That's the problem. Most of the Mods here don't provide any service in the BST forums.

The better the thread, the more visibility it should get.
This system will not stay for long.

I partly agree with you that Shawn must have thought of something, after all he wants to get this place better and better :)

Regarding buyers and sellers: They are Sellers who keep watching their listing rank in BST section, buyers don't bother what ranks on 1st page and what ranks on 10th page. Buyers just need a service, and there are MANY service providers offering the same.

Obviously, web-surfers don't care which website is listed on which page on Google, but site-owners do.

This won't hit much to buyers, but it DOES hit to quality service providers or sellers, by not bumping their old threads being filled with reviews.

This is not for anyone's good, think of it. What buyers would see is multiple threads of same service providers (those providers will manage to have different usernames using a team). If one thinks that buyers should rely on Search option, it was there before too. So why to change thread listing rule???

    Well said ;)

I want to add an another point in here..

Buyers won't find the product they're after as often as it was earlier. So not only sellers but partially buyers would be affected for sure.

Cute. Sorry - most people I know know what that means (just like fiance, cafe, etc being french words well known and used in english :p). You got an infraction for that post. Fair enough and made me laugh anyway, so I reversed it.

And since I never play favorites when it comes to infractions or bans (despite the fact that members always assume mods are "out to get them" - I've banned clients, friends, and colleagues just like anyone else), consider it an official request for Shawn or Rob to go ahead and give me an infraction (since other mods can't). Feel better? ;)

And for the record - it's never appropriate to throw around accusations that mods are corrupt in any way. We don't allow you to start threads and such to accuse other members of being scammers, and the same goes for staff. If you have hard evidence of something, then send it to Shawn for him to review. In the future, you will get infractions for it (and in serious / obsessive cases we've banned people for it)
