I got an email from Joel Comm (newsletter) about this script that can translate your web page into 8 languages provided it's maximumally 1800 words/page. Joel gave me a link ,and yes it's an affiliate link as I can see id=--- in the url, so I was wondering does anyone here use it or heard of it or use similar scripts that can translate your website. Anyone know other FREE similar scripts . Here is the link anyway ,with no id= ..: http://www.translationgold.com/
Looks scammy. They probably had their Web site translated professionally for advertising purposes, but simply plug your site into babelfish or something equally horrid while taking your money.
There is NO Translater on Internet and NO Software till today that can tranlsate good and understandable into another language! I have tried many. It is better to learn the language. Or let your own website translate to a native speaker or human translator.
I had my website translated into Spanish by a native Spanish speaker. Then I had another person read through it. He immediately told me the translator was a young person (true) who didn't know much about the building trades (true), We also found that a Home Depot produced book on Home improvement uses a variety of words for the same thing. It seemed to depend on which person or committee had written that part of the book. Translation programs have a long way to go. Just look at how fast native English speakers can spot "funny" word useage in postings here.
It is true, translation scripts have a long way to go. However, with 5000 or so languages spoken throughout the world - google still have 4800+ to cover Translation scripts will improve with time - but for now they can provide a general overview of the page albeit not always accurate, but comedic nonetheless. I can only speak english so I will be one of the many millions that wont be able to contribute to the language development of the web, I will however embrace the technology as it advances.
When you see the list of languages available it is clear for me to see that the pages are simply being put through the Babelfish translation engine as the list exactly matches those currently available. Now, English-German-English via babelfish is truely aweful when it comes to accuracy or even context, you really have to speak German AND English in order to work out what the translation engine has interpretted. I really do not see the need for anyone to offer this service as you will only make the visitor angry rather than pleased and chances are they will never go back to your site as the translation is rubbish. The only benefit of this type of tool is that for each keyword on your site, you now have the chance to have a lot more keywords in other languages added to your list, making the content seem a lot more than it really is, no human could ever learn something from or even read your content.
I have friends that live in Germany and they visit our website in the US. They read English very well, although some slang words are apparently confusing. I have used a free translator form, found at several sites, to leave messages for them. They had no idea what I was saying. They said one problem is that if we, in the US, say a phrase one way, they may say it another. We have a large Spanish (Puerto Rican) speaking population in my city and I desperately need to translate our site but found that it is very expensive for someone to do it. A script would be the easy way but we wouldn't want to say the wrong thing and certainly, not insult someone by saying something that may offend them in another language.
Believe me, it's a crap. I don't understand what Joel is thinking right now.. I used to regard him as an "Adsense Master" once.. but not now. He just ruins his reputation by sending such spams. Regarding translation software, I agree.. it's still a long way to go. Google has developed the same translation software, and we can use it online. We all know how its quality is (I'm not saying it's suck.. just not perfect). We all also know that Google hires many Phds to develop it. So, believe me.. don't waste your time.
it's the same translation at the end of the day - both tools use the babelfish translation libraries. As I stated above, for anything of any value to you, the only way to get a good readable translation is to pay a human translator, no software can or has ever been able to accurately translate text from one language to the other. If I were running a multilanguage business, i would not want to tarnish my name in German for example, if I have used the auto-translators to provide content in German, the context would be lost, wrong tenses would be used and I have already seen in my previous experiments that only about 40% (max 50%) of the translated output resembles the same meaning as the original, almost every sentence needed work to make it readable in German. It does have one benefit, it can help in translating some words that you may have forgotten but I would never use it without checking dict.leo.org to firstly make sure that the expression is the correct one. Translation Gold is simply a tool for the one-language speaker who is gullible enough to believe the marketing nonsense and get taken in by promises of a free translation, perhaps even expanding the keywords on their site. No other value.
Yes, I agree with you. I'm a software developer too.. and I realize it's impossible to develop such software for this time.
