As I browse through threads on each of the DP forums I am astonished at the HUGE number of banned members. My initial reaction was that this must be a mistake believing that no one forum can draw that many (bad) members that should be banned. For several of these banned members, I decided to check some of their latest posts to see if I could detect anything that could be construed as bad behaviour. I could find none.

Is the "banned" heading underneath the members name a mistake or do people here get banned for even the slightest infraction??

Well... Yes... That is why most people are banned on ANY forum. That doesnt explain why the overwhelming number of banned members on THIS forum. Are the rules so oppressive that abiding by them to the Tee is so difficult that even the (seemingly) average member can find him/herself banned with little warning.

    It isn't that difficult TBH.

The problem is that people do not bother to read the rules before posting. If they did, you wouldn't have people getting banned left and right.

The seven day BST ban has claimed quite a few victims, but they'll all be back in a week, wiser after the ban.

I just got back from a 7 day ban a week or two ago. I was bad. I learned my lesson. As an older member, I hadn't reviewed the rules in years. I just reread the rules and there were a few things I had forgotten. It's just important to read the rules here.

It's the quickest way to teach us a lesson, one that they make sure we learn. Usually only lasts 7 days, depending on how serious. :)

The problem is TONS of people join here.. and lots of people don't read the rules. There are lots of spam bots as well, so those are probably banned too.

    Main thing is follow rules.

It's not terribly difficult to not be banned. Read the rules... they are pretty simple to follow if you actually bother to follow them.

A lot of people get a "warning" ban for the 7 days, decide they are going to make a new account (which isn't allowed... you even have to agree when you sign up that this is your first/only account here, so not like they can say they didn't know it wasn't allowed). Then their 7 day ban turns into a much, much longer ban.

There are users with many thousands of posts who have never received a single infractions (thank you to those users, it makes moderator's jobs easier), then there are users that seem to get an infraction for every post they make because they are just here to spam.

The rules and stickies are your warnings. If members choose to ignore them, they have no grounds to complain. The 7 day bans are a gift. You'd be surprised how many of the recipients are actually eligible for a 3 month ban or so given how many bumps they've actually made.
