Ok, so here at DP the marketplace is a mixture of cheapy webhosting, directory submissions and a couple of link sales.

The majority of threads break the rules, many are duplicates of other threads that sellers have re-posted.

All bumping goes on in the marketplace, it also gets spam and people get scammed and come and complain in this section.

Basically the marketplace is full of:

    • Bumping
    • Duplicate threads
    • Scams
    • General crap

It doesn't contribute to the forum, or anything - ok its a decent enough place to sell cheap websites and stuff but everyone knows there are better marketplaces, such as SitePoint - where you get what your site is actually worth, not half of that.

Getting rid of the marketplace would:

    • Cut down on over 50% of rule breaking
    • Effectively stop any bumping (who would bump outside the marketplace)
    • Make the rest of the forums more popular
    • Get rid of scammers and members only here to trade stuff

Really, there would be no more bumping, itrader abuse, scamming, whatever - also things like hacking would be less - people who have had their DP accounts hacked have had them used on the marketplace for scamming.

And the benefits of the marketplace are few and far between.

You might wanna add "Cut down on over 50% of the users"?

The marketplace is used by people who need to buy or sell stuff, if you think its overcrowded and not useful to you, just not use it. Go and use the "better" marketplaces like sitepoint.

Its also better to report everytime you see a wrong post. I've stopped even visiting the BST.

If people dont use the BST, they wont hav high itraders, if they dont have itraders then hackers cant find good use of it and hence will not hack. People who do use the BST and have high itraders are people with real brains and keep a strong password, not login at random places and make sure their pc is safe.

AND: Personally, i think DP needs a hell lot of more mods...

I don't get it. Why ban the marketplace? If you don't like it don't use it. If you think that spammers are spamming other parts of the forum to sell stuff - they are gonna do that anyway, regardless of whether the marketplace is there or not!

Possibly, or they could post in other parts of the forum and actually be useful, make good websites, give tips and stuff instead of selling bad stuff in the marketplace.

If they spend all their time in the marketplace anyway then it's not like your losing an active and helpful member.

I am saying DP is swarmed by members using the marketplace and join for the marketplace, when DP isn't even meant to be a marketplace.

If it was removed, DP would be a good quality forum.

I reported 5-10 threads in webhosting earlier for breaking rules, but you can only report 1 and minute so it's difficult.

The people that use the marketplace don't have real brains - people with real brains use a proper marketplace or sell privately, they don't sell sites for 20% of their real value, they pay some cash and get a proper price for it.

The people with brains are helping people in other forums, but are endlessly wasting their time dealing with people and threads from the marketplace.

If the marketplace was removed then it wouldn't need any more.

Interesting point calum, although it would be sad if the rule-breaking actions of the minority removed everyone else's opportunity to do business here.

Digital Point is a forum for all. the BST do have some newbies, but hey, i'm what i am now bcz of dp... The marketplace helped me too, i bought some great domains from here... We all need it... If someone is selling "coolestdomain" only at dp, will you get it at sitepoint? you'll be disappointed when you know such a domain was sold so cheap...

DP is meant to be a webmasters forum. Webmasters need services and stuff. I get a few clients from DP all the time and money always helps. If it was removed, we'd loose a lot of members, and a lot of premium stuff and many clients...

You might wanna suggest them to lessen the time?

I have a brain, and i dont use other marketplaces. DP is the only marketplace i use when i need to. I don't waste my time in the marketplace bcz i dont visit it. I would have had to if i were a mod.

I'm talking if it isn't removed, which is most likely the case.

I need the buy and sell place. I do make money there. When I do small jobs on Getafreelancer.com or Rentacoder.com, I have to pay unfriendly fees. I like the freedom here. Everyone can help moderate the forum by using the report button. Why not spend time doing that instead of trying to close the place down. Okay, thanks. :)

Check out my thread titled "Why do you demand this".

I had a better idea than shutting it down. Let's improve it! It is time for a 2.0 version!

Way to be disrespectful ... when I need things done I don't want to do (or know how to do) the marketplace here at DP has many helpful members waiting for me.

 know how many people you just insulted? People who have been here and contributed alot more than you.

Oh comeon I've used the marketplace quite a bit in the past two years. Besides, I just hired someone out of the marketplace. You just need to have some common sense to look around and separate real from fake offers.

Closing the marketplace is not "real-brainer" will do. Believe me, there's some people around the world actually relying thier life from income they get in DP by offering services and stuff. It will kill their economy and their life if the marketplace closed.

I would prefer the idea of makeover the DP marketplace into better one. It can be a small listing fee, or separate it in new site, better moderating system, etc. That's more "real brainer" rather than closing the marketplace.

    Just my 2cents

Small listing fee? :\ Loads of people will leave if you add a fee just to post a thread.

That is just one of the idea. It will be pro and cons of course, but the point is "It's better when you makeover the marketplace rather than close it".

Are you suggesting DP to replicate Flippa? Freedom and forum posting marketplace style has always been DP's style. I sure do hope that they can improve the quality and all but to remove it altogether would be a shame and certainly effect the online's world economy,
