How to use twitter to grow business?

First off, I am new to this forum and I have joined here to learn and to share new things in internet marketing, also, m interested in business networking.

Now then, I have heard so much about twitter and how it’s going to help business to grow. However, I am not sure how to go about doing it ethically and without hurting anyone.

    Here is my question:

Mindlessly following people and follow back will not fetch much result. It might drive traffic for some time but it will also lead to more bounce back and not necessarily to sales or conversion. Moreover, we have just started up so cannot compare to companies like dell either which has a brand identity all across the world. Also, when we say tweets about products regularly, does it mean I have to tweet everyday, irrespective of whether I have anything new to say or not. I am also confused as to how many tweets are acceptable especially for a company twitter account. Is there any twitter business model that I can follow that will really help my business grow?

    Help!

    Cheers,

    Neeraj

Find people who are in your niche, like minded people that might be looking for what you have to offer...follow them, they will most likely follow you back.

Develop relationships with them, don't make the mistake of posting too much about yourself and not responding or paying attention to others!! Retweeting lets others know you appreciate them. Gain Twitter Followers Tip-Interact with others... Respond to others when they are talking, leave a tweet about their update, show interest!

Around 95% of your tweets should be of value and the other 5% links to your products or sites.

Twitter is about engagement, value and a social experience. A constant flow of sales links is just not cool, so abide by some of these rules and you'll find Twitter a good thing for your business!

Twitter is a powerful marketing tool only if you are utilizing in the right way. It is not just sharing the information with others. You have to really build your group with targeted audience that helps for the growth of your business. Say, if you have 1000 targeted followers and a question that you post may bring you at least 100 answers. Applying the same for a product promotion or an update on your existing business product may drive you the results, immediately !

Of course, it drives you the traffic but you could make use of twitter to receive targeted traffic.

The twitter business model is simple, if you're looking for customers, you try to see their interests and inform them personally about company offers with a direct @ reply. If they care they might respond, they might also remove you from their list or whatever, but that's fine, you were just doing a service of informing them about something they might enjoy/use.

It is also a prestigious thing to have a twitter account, and your business should use it to uphold its reputation and create a friendly face. If you're helping other twitterers or giving them resources, it will in the end be like advertisement for your company.

Say you're a pretty large hand-soap company... If you help a twitterer that doesn't have too many followers or anything, the next time the guy buys soap, he will most likely remember your company first.

It's better advertisement than say a commercial, because a commercial seems like a task to viewers, but aid from a company seems like a favor, special, just for them.

If someone on twitter were to compliment my website, or even talk about it in any form of way, I feel a huge burden to repay the person somehow. That is what twitter, is, you give, and you hope someone gives back.

Tellafriend, I think you made the right decision there. It's good to know before one ventures, not just following the crowd.

Neeraj, you have to use your brain here. You cannot use twitter to help grow your business in a smart, productive manner.

Twitter is one of, if not the most hyped Internet sites yet. It boggles the mind, actually.

Only complete dumbasses, who will probably never be successful, thinks it works.

The first thing you have to realize is that just about everybody there who "twitters" follows one another blindly. Meaning, just about all of them click on one another's "follow" links, and...they don't even bother to read one another's pages!

If you think about it, it is, basically, a ridiculous site filled mostly with mindless idiots.

With that said, do YOU think they would make great customers?

On top of that stupidity, how long will you have to spend on that site, how much effort would you have to put into it to make even one sale???

    Think about it.

You are hearing this from complete idiots, like the ones on this board.

Look at all of the stupid twitter threads.

Here's something else to think about: All of these fools who start such threads praising it, and the ones who say the same, that it is a "great tool" have just about dead sites, very few daily visitors.

They, people in general, are like talking parrots. They mindlessly repeat things they hear from other talking parrots. And so on and so on.

Before you know it, all this talk makes it seem that a particular method is worth something, when in actuality it isn't.

The funny thing is, many of these shit for brain posters here either do not EVEN have a page or they do, and they have a small handful of followers!

They have no idea. They post just to be heard, to be part of a thread.

You want to listen to them, and others like them???

Use twitter for fun, to fill boring times. Do not use it for marketing.

Experiment with it a couple of months, to see for yourself.

    Dear Perry,

That was quite verbose...:) That said, I do think what you said makes lot of sense. However, one thing I know that there are possibilties-- no matter how small or big those possibilites are. Perhaps, twitter marketing is more of an experiment and exploration than anything else. But for that matter this holds true for any form of Internet marketing. What's your take on this?

Look forward to hear from you.

    Cheers!:)

You can't make them follow you. If you follow all the people in your niche you will get a few who follow you back.

The days of mass following complete strangers with the faintest hope that they will follow you back is rapidly coming to an end as folks tire of all the spam and other such nonsense. The people using Twitter are becoming much more aware of who they follow, at a minimum they will check your page before following you. If all they see is a page full of spam, or worse (like a follower I got the other day) no conversation at all, they will not follow you back.

Provide a good base of information, engage in some conversations, build your brand - but do not blatantly sell - and you will increase your followers count.

As a side note, I will keep Perry's rant in mind this Friday while I'm depositing my checks that were earned off Twitter marketing :D

You're pretty funny yet incredibly stupid at the same time, grandllama.

More experienced webmasters can smell the shit coming out of your mouth three blocks away.

With the exception of word of mouth and advertising, I agree.

Well, for webmasters starting out, things like this twitter stuff, that's the only way to see for yourself.

Give it serious experimentation for a couple of months. Hell, not even that long.

I don't agree... Unless you are actually famous or a well known website, you will not get followers just by making conversation.

Almost everyone is following each other based on auto-follows and random selection of followers. People don't just add you because they happen to see you talk normally (not like a bot) on trending or search. Everyone is a "Me me me" attention freak, very few people retweet, unless its extremely useful or they think you will retweet their stuff. People follow because you followed them, or you talked to them directly, or they are just randomly following people on the trending-topics etc.

90% of tweets are left unanswered and it's very difficult to get people to talk to you. Your only hope is to be extremely open and talk to random people directly, comment on their tweets, or retweet anything even remotely interesting... You have to help others to get help back.
