How do I get sports-relevant ads on my site?

    Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help!

    I run a blog that covers the Pac-10 conference in college football and basketball. In a perfect world, I'd love to see ads for content relevant to the schools or team's merchandise. But at this point I'd also be okay with any advertisements surrounding SPORTS, football and basketball most dominantly.

    This is what my readers would like to see too, since they are on the site to read about their favorite teams and sports.

    Unfortunately, Google Adsense seems to take the team names too literally, to the point where I immediately took the google adsense box out because it was so bad;

    Arizona Wildcats: Ads for Big Wild Cat and Veterinarian
    Arizona State Sun Devils: Relevant ads to ASU
    Cal Bears: Ads for Chicago Bears
    Oregon Ducks: Ads for Mallard Ducklings, Duck Hunting
    Oregon Beavers: Ads for removing Beavers infestation from your home
    Stanford Cardinal: Ads for Cardinal Health
    USC Trojans: Ads for Trojan Adware/Spyware
    UCLA Bruins: Relevant ads to UCLA
    Washington Huskies: Ads for adopting huskies/dogs
    Washington Cougars: Ads for Go Cougar Hunting!

    All that has been suggested to me is "section targeting", which I kind of understand, but I'm HTML illiterate and don't really know how to use it.

    Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

    just keep putting relevant content, I am sure google will come up with good relevant ads.

    section targetting

    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->

    any content here, will be targeted by google

    <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    For a while now, Google displays ads according what the user "tastes" and also some related to your niche.

    Very bad.

    I hope so! The problem is, our relevant content IS these teams! So as long as we keep covering them, I'm worried that google crawlers will keep thinking the Trojans and Beavers we are talking about are viruses and pests we need eradicated from our home :(

    Is it as simple as something like this;

    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->

    Football, Basketball, Baseball, Sports Merchandise, Sports Memorabilia, College

    <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    And then just pasting that into my HTML somewhere?

    It is hard to change the ad content without changing the page content. You can probably ad new content to your page. You will probably have new ad content.
