Generally you want to try to stay away from software as much as possible. Not because they don't get the job done, but because it makes your efforts look spammy, and quantity does not equal quality! Sorry but that is just not true. Some automated software produces spammy results, but not SEO Elite. It makes it so much easier to see where your competitors get their links. Then you can easily copy them or outdo them with your own link sources. There is nothing spammy about that.
I use Web CEO (free) and IBP (full version). There are some tools on web ceo that i like over IBP and vica versa. When it comes to mass emailing people for links, you want to make the email message look as natural as possible. Regardless of reciprocal links, one way link building is more valuable. Just keep writing unique content and before you know it, people will be emailing you for links, and you will naturally build up your links. Post in blogs, forums, submit articles, social bookmarking, ect. This is the best way to build quality relevant links to your site.
I am going to purchase SEO elite, but I am confused about there pricing. One form says 47 dollars per month and another one says 167 dollars? Whats the real price?
Not sure about the $47/month deal.. you want the one that is one time $167. I think the software kicks some butt, I'm liking it big time. I'm thinking about keyword elite next.. maybe next month.
