    Page content, backlinks or both.

    Thanks

Backlinks. But pagerank does not determine your placements on google.

Backlinks, but where the backlink comes from determines the amount of pagerank that is given.

Things like keywords, content, pagerank, anchor link, amount of links to a page, link postioning and many other factors will determine the amount of pagerank pushed from one site to another.

Correct, you can place well in the SERPs with good on site SEO but not have a lot of Google PR.
For some reason when people are looking for sites to buy they look at PR instead of SERPs...
For me I prefer the traffic instead of the pretty green bar.

I handle clients' sites with PR 0 that are #1 or even #1 and #2 (multiple listings) for their niches.

    PR does not equal traffic.

Traffic is what matters at the end of the day.

PR is great if you're selling the site or selling links/posts or need link exchange partners

I agree you don't need PR to get on Google's 1st page or even #1. But that green line sure looks purty :D

Actually I was just wondering how some domain sellers were selling PR domains with no links. One was actually only a few days old and had a PR3. Then it hit me that some unscrupulous sellers might be "transferring" PR from another page temporarily, until they sell it. Then the PR would mysteriously disappear I guess and reappear on another domain they were selling.

page rank is established by the google search engine determining the quantity and quality of your backlinks (basically in relationship to all other sites and pages on the internet)

many other on-page and off-page factors, some 200 qualitative and quantitative factors or so (with google at least), go into determining search engine results

Pagerank is for backlinks and traffic is for what? What determines traffic?

Well I would agree with what has been said. You can be getting all kinds of traffic from a page rank of just 1. I do think that the content you have on that page makes a difference on the kind of links you get. Page rank is something nice to have. I work towards getting a good page rank on my site, but don't fuss too much with it.

Page Rank is given by many factors. It depends upon the quality and content of the website and its domain age. It also depends upon the number of backlinks. So, both page content and backlinks determines the page rank.

Page Rank = Number of back links pointing to you

Back links are like votes , More votes, More better page rank !
