Just writing to ask you all is building a recipes site a waste of time .Reason being the niche is way too large and the idea of make any sort of income off it is very low .People around me are saying that the niche is no good .The people who go to recipes site only want free stuff etc. They say I need a hook or something like that to draw people to my site. The true is that II would like to make some cash off the site www.askyourcook.com but if it is not a good idea to continue maybe i should look at something else. I am very new to all this, I would like to know what the net builder gang thinks. I am a little lost on when to go here.
I think the niche is fine, but you might need to come up with some ideas on how you will stand out of the crowd. Forum, blog, rating script, comments script would be my guesses. try searching hotscripts.com for some ideas. You have a great domain name imo, so don't give up too easily.
It is a niche just like almost every other niche out there. There are a few too many sites just like it. Try it for a few months and if you don't have any income, then forget it.
The niche may be a little crowded but I don't think that makes it a bad one - you just have to realize there is going to be a lot of other people out there doing the same thing. This can actually be a really good thing if you can take that and leverage it positively. If you plan on being the biggest in the niche, then you might have some problems on your hands but usually there is room for several companies to share the room at the top. It looks like you dont have much info though, you should decide why it is that people are coming to your site. Why do they want your recipes? Put yourself in the shoes of the person cooking these things.
