    Hi Guys,

I heard from other forums that there is a limit to how many meta keywords you can put in. Is this true or not.

You can put as many as u want in meta keyword, but in some article that I read say that Search Engine just count the 20 first keyword. And another article said that just the 6 first is the optimal ones......Just sharing what I read....

There isn't a strict limit, but the truth is that META keywords are much less important than they used to be. Some people think they aren't used at all anymore. If you do still use them, keep the keywords as focused as possible to the content of the page and only use a handful.

No hard and fast rule of quantity. Its just the quality. Put only the keywords which are relevant to the content or the keywords you're trying to optimize that page for.

    Here is a tip!

Don't use keywords tag (doesn't matter if you use it or not nowdays) as you don't want your competitors to take a peek at your keyword research.

    Meta keywords really don't matter.

No search engines really use them anymore.

    Meta keywords are dead.

On the other hand meta description is important and the limit has been said to be less than 155 characters (not words) but I personally have noticed that it sometimes get's cut off before 155 and so use 140 characters.

I have read about keywords and that are dead now - I am not sure about this, there are rumors about it but I wouldn't decide to not to use it.

I usually keep meta descriptions to around 150 characters. I find that I start to use too many keywords if I go over 200 characters and that concerns me due to possibility keyword dilution.

I usually keep the meta keywords focused, using 3-6 per page :)

I've always read 250 characters myself but feel the self imposed 150 character limit, as mentioned above, would be a good limit.

But meta descriptions and keywords are used less now a days as the search engine spiders have gotten better. I would make sure that what you put in the meta lines match up with what your content is.

Experience tells me the perfect length for a meta description for google is 123 characters - if you want to be as sure as you can that google will use it - that's the length that works!
Most major search engines ignore meta keywords - Google certainly does, but there's harm in putting 2 or 3 in , just for the odd search engine that looks at them. Putting more than that is just a waste of time and effort.

Sure you can, but I think we're trying to find the correct number to put in the meta lines.

A quick Google finds this thread elsewhere which makes a lot of sense to me:

    Hope this helps,

One thousand words that will be totally ignored.
Why waste your time typing them?

According to my memory, in the past Google limits the number of meta keywords used in rankings. Today, i think they accept more keywords.

Still, they recommend to limit your meta keywords. Verify this through Google Webmaster Tool Help Section and Youtube Channel.

Each search engine has different views on meta keywords.

Google does not limit your meta keywords - they tell you that they ignore them

Yeah I watched a video the other day and Matt Cutts didn't even devote to discussing meta keywords - 'we don't really care about those' !
