I just watched the movie - and wow. If you thought Texas Chainsaw was horrific and gorry - this deffinently one (or 10) ups it. I'm a huge horror movie fan and this one actually had me squirming around in my seat. This brought an interesting topic to my attention - I've never believed the BS about movies/video games causing kids or people to become violent, etc. But these kind of movies bring a whole new meaning to the "R" rating. I can actually imagine a young person being traumatized by this movie. I feel the "R" rating is being used incorrectly - action movies and dramas with nudey scenes... these share the same rating as a movie like Devils Rejects or Saw... I think they need 2 seperate ratings for this.
i saw a bit of it at the toronto film festival screening, before the council cut out scenes. i left, (i had no idea what the movie was )
SVZ I can't imagine the "cut" scenes being any worse than what was actually shown! And I don't know about some of you - but these super gory movies aren't really scaring anyone. they're more or less just grosing you out with how disgusting and disturbed they are. I'm not trying to make horrors sound bad - because I'm a big fan of them.
I think you're right on that one yo-yo. You can't equate cutting off somebody's head to a couple having sex or someone saying F*CK. They're just not the same. I think violence should be separated (ratings wise) from sex and "bad" words.
hostel is good? I saw devils' rejects the other day, even though it has some corny parts, there are parts in that movie that are pretty intense
Yeh I really liked devil's rejects - hostel is good if your up for some extremely gory scenes and lots of hot european boobies. There's a new one coming out where it takes place in the nevada desert and deformed people are all crazy from the atom-bombs that were tested there. It looks pretty good too I forget the name of it though.
I'm not really into gore movies that much. Was there a sophisticated plot or was it just a bunch of people dying in bloody ways? The best horror movie I've seen recently is Saw. I like that one because the killer is a genius, and makes people kill themselves.
Wow, I was going to see this movie with a bunch of my college buddies but wow...looks pretty insane. We just saw Grandma's Boy instead, funny funny movie.
Oh my god, Hostel was easily one of the worst "horror" movies I've seen in a long time. I've grown up on horror movies since I was a kid, believe it or not -- and that was sorely disappointing. I've seen it three times now, and each time I watched it made me realize it was never going to get better. I thoroughly enjoyed Devils Rejects and the Saw movies,(in a cool, "Oh wow I can't believe they made this movie" kind of way, not an "I'm psychotic, shoot me now" kind of way, mind you) because they actually had a developed storyline which wasn't strictly devoted to blood and gore. Hostel was weak. LAME, I say. Lame.
They couldn't even spell the title right. Its not hostel, its hostile! Someone get those producers a spell checker. Geesh. Yes I know that hostel is a word too (that's the joke!)
Heh... I was about to make a fool of myself just now, until I read the white text under your post, Lorien
