    Hi

Yesterday my website jumped from number 465 on google to number 6 for a competitive keyword on google for just one day, and is now back at 465 today? What does this mean.Does it mean my site will get a good ranking soon or just a fluctuation.

    Thanks

    Stephen,

what tool do you use to track the SERP being #465 or #6 based on a kw?

I've been looking for something like that.

    thanks

Maybe you were given Fresh Site Bonus and now it is gone.
How old is your domain or rather when was it indexed by Google?

I'm experiencing the same thing, it happened to me last february if i remember correctly, but after a month everything came back to normal.

It's very frustrating to see our sites do the yoyo :)
Right now several of my sites kind of disappeared, and show up every now and then. ( since last friday )

Same thing happened to me for a website. I think is quite normal...

I was wondering if it is related to the frequency of new links created. I read somewhere that Google takes into account the number of link you submitted in one month and then compare the value over the next months.

If you create 20 links the first month and nothing for the next 2 months, Google will drop the ranking accordingly.

Anyone can confirm this trend ?

As someone else said, its more then likely a preview of your future rankings. Google will do that sometimes, to see how the click-thru's to your site are. If you get a lot of click-thru's to your site and not very many "back button" to the Google SERPs, Google will more then likely put you at 6 or higher. If you do get a lot of back button's, you'll more then likely fall somewhere in the 6-10 range.

Either way, when Google does another decent update, you should see a considerable jump in rankings.

No, my website is 5 months old and I did lots of backlink building in the first 2 months and then sort of decreased over time,so manby thats the reason. It is so frustrating to see it jump back to number 465 on google.I hope it goes back to number 6 sometime soon as I am focusing now on getting highly relevant, quality backlinks from niche related websites.

yes, it only google dance. I have my site from no. 8 to no. 100 then gone then no. 100 and now No. 3.

I was panic too, but when i search.. it was natural cause my site is still young, only 3 month old.

keep building backlink you will see your site improve the position at google after google stop dancing your site.

I would suggest NOT using a tool to find out if you're at 465... A tool like iBusinessPromoter (IBP) can pull ranks but why even waste it on anything on the 46th page back... You're risking getting detected by Google and having your entire IP block banned for 24 hrs for using an automated tool to hit their site. If you use a machine at your company to pull ranks and Google detects it, they will ban your ENTIRE company's IP block from access Google.com for 24 hrs... It sucks... Have seen it happen w/ previous SEO at our company.

Also if you have 100 keywords you want to check you're going back as far as 50 pages... that's 5000 searches... w/ a human behavioral delay of say 30 seconds for each search... that's around 2500 min... That's almost 42 hrs to pull rankings for 100 words FROM GOOGLE ONLY... Throw in Bing, Yahoo!, Ask and you're looking at it running for a week+. LOL

If you are not in the top 2-5 pages NO ONE is going to find you. So whether you're at 51 or 5001 it's the same. If you REALLY want to know where you rank, check it manually. This how I do it:

    1) I keep my preferences at Google set to 100 results per page...
    2) I search for the keyword phrase I'm checking...
    3) I press CTRL-F (find) then enter your domain (example.com) and NEXT to find my domain name on the page in the organic SERPs.
    4) If it finds it on the page, note where the vertical scroll bar is on the right side of the page. If the scroll bar is half way down then you're around position 50... If it's 3/4ths of the way down then you're around position 75.
    5) If you don't find it... click on the link at the bottom to go to page 2. Then repeat steps 3 and 4 above.

When you're checking rankings above positions 20 or 30, it's find to get an estimate. You don't need to know exactly whether you're ranking at 456 or 463... You just need to know you're around 450-470ish..
