First of all, where are you targeting your website to rank good?

It is good if you target .com

If you target and geographical traffic and looking for good ranking in specific google.co.uk / .co.in / etc you need to register at google.com/webmaster and set geo setting for your website. More details here http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=62399

Even if you use ".com" in your browser, it still won't be the SAME with Google.com US result. Go use US proxy such as http://anonymizer.nntime.com or hidemyass.com and type your keyword there. You will see the real Google US results (you can even see the adwords advertisers here, where if you type Google.com from your own country, you won't be able to see them)

google has different data centers and search result for each data center can be different. if you have a site that you are targetting for specific geo, then you need to login to your webmaster tool and assign geo for your site. no site will rank the same across all geo

if your traffic from location is fewer, that it could be happened.
in google your website have a good position can't prove that will be in your local search engine.

I would say in localized search there are better sites in competition (& better optimized for local searches) which is why your site is not coming up in the results.

I think you should optimize your site for the local search engine targeting the "local keywords & phrases" following specific search pattern.
