First of all, I got a 7 day ban for this post: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1409414&page=3 And was directed here after getting back from my ban: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=11951826&postcount=304 Now, I've been a member here for going on 5 years. I've "contributed" 4,500+ posts. Is that how you want to treat me? WITHOUT ANY WARNING or other infraction at all, I am 7 days banned. Seems a little harsh to me. Perhaps I should have known the rules after coming back from a long break. But if you ask me... a simple PM or small infraction that didn't result in a ban would have gave me the heads up needed not to break this new rule again... a 7 day ban wasn't needed...... Yes Mad. That's all.
I'm not sure, but when I checked that thread of yours, I found that there were a lot of posts made by you (which could have been avoided). a.k.a. bumping. Does that clear your doubt about why you were banned?
Well, I am too back from 7 Day long vacation. But I think reason was sufficient. You posted exactly what not to be posted (as rules states). Not only you, in the past week, lot of reputed members got banned. You should be carefull in BST section and should always use PM.
I know exactly why I was banned, now, after the fact. All I'm saying is a WARNING before a ban would have made me aware of the problem, and a 7 day banning wasn't needed. That's my feedback.. for the suggestions & feedback forum. Haven't spent 20 hours reading all the new rules yet, so maybe this broke them again.
Yes there is now a zero tolerance policy on crap threads and I have actually seen a lot of benefit over the last week. The only problem is that people now PM you requesting a reviw copy and I don't want to post that there are none left for fear of getting banned again. People in general are abiding by the rules now but it makes things a little difficult for the sellers. Rules are rules though and the zero tolerance shows no kink in its armour, everyone is susceptible
yo-yo, The announcement or rule change was made May 21st 2008 (See http://forums.digitalpoint.com/announcement.php?f=24). Due to non=compliance Aaron's warning was made over a year ago Jul 15th 2008, (See http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=934065) and we are still fighting the same battles. Two things I suggest each member do is re-read the information in the FAQ and the allowed or not sticky found in buy, sell, trade. Just yesterday I made a suggestion of an addition to the allowed or not sticky only to learn it was already there. Paint my face red. As I say we all need to reread the two items referenced.
Looking at what OP had to complain here, I just wanted to know if the moderators have the facility to view the past record of a member. It would be great if they got to see the behavior of a member in the recent past. If the record is relatively good, perhaps an infraction rather than a harsh penalty would serve the purpose equally well....just my two cents! Regards, RightMan
Do you still think that 7 days ban is a harsh penatly for ignoring rules/stickies Rules are Rules and applicable to everyone (old and new members). DON.
Certainly moderators can see every post you have ever made on DP as well as all of your infractions. Such information is used in making infraction decisions.
Yo-yo i too was banned recently for some extremely stupid reason, I know how you feel. But now what is done is done, just be careful in the future is all we can do And tbh these rules are needed or else DP will get flooded with crap.
Look at it from the moderators pov. You're the xxxth person today doing something that's against the rules. It's going to get old quickly for them. Dishing out quick, short bans did it's job here certainly. Like I said you'll certainly remember next time. Although by your own admission you still haven't read the rules, so perhaps lessons were not learned. That said does the punishment fit the crime? I'd say a 24hour ban would make a point and not inconvienience a user with an otherwise good record.
I also left the forums (or visited rarely) for several years. When I came back I didn't realize there was a need to spend hours reading all the (new to me) rules. If mr sawz had taken 3 seconds to look at my account and use information in that way, he would have seen I haven't had an infraction since Oct 11th 2006 and could have easily given me a small non-ban one as a warning. That is all I'm suggesting... before going off hap-hazardly banning long time members left and right and pissing them off. Exactly. If they don't like being good mods they shouldn't be mods. If it's too much work for them, then there should be more of them. No excuses needed. A simple warning or infraction would have done a BETTER job. It would have notified me of the problem (just like the ban did) and I wouldn't have done it again. Just my 2 cents.
Older members are not above the rules. They apply to everyone. As a member, it's your responsibility to familiarize yourself with them. You are far from the first person to complain about being banned or getting infractions (which you should not start threads to complain about in the first place - PM a moderator if you have questions pertaining to your account). If people spent a fraction of the time they spend complaining on actually reading the rules, they wouldn't get infractions or bans in the first place.
