Is it true that google will favor a domain registered for 10 years than only a year or two? or this is just another myth?

It's not THAT big a deal... Like many of the 200+ ranking factors, it has "a little" impact on rankings, but a 10 yr old domain is not automatically going to rank better than even a 3 month old domain for a particular keyword phrase SOLELY because it's older. Things like relevant inbound links with the targeted keyword phrase as the link text carry FAR more weight. Domain age is only 1 of 200+ ranking factors, so alone it's not going to carry much weight. And since it affects the rankings of all URLs on the domain it only carries a little weight. But if all other ranking factors are equal, the older domain should win by a hair...

Domain age does help yes, ie how long your site has been there... how old it is.
That said, also, older sites have have longer to build backlinks etc.

HOWEVER the OP was asking if they needed to register their domain for the next 10 years rather than just renew it when it needs every year or two, and that why i posted the link to Mr Cutts own words.

Domain Age is considered as one of the 200+ factors used in determining website pageRank. There were alot of sites registered in the 1990s - 2000s that rank high on search results.. Apple.com is one. :)

We began to register our domains at least three to five years ahead. I cannot attest as to whether it actually helps our rankings, but we heard that Google will view sites that are registered for at least a few years as more legitimate business-wise. We did it as a precaution, and just in case someday it would become more of a priority in Google's eyes.

I must admit, I have seen something on an authority SEO blog recommending multiple year registrations. I think its because there is a rumour Google begins to downgrade links to domains with less than a year to expiry to counter tha snapping up of expired domains purely for linkjuice purposes. So if you only register for a year at a time, you are always in that boat.
