I've read a lot saying forum sig will not help your rankings but help get some targeted traffic, so do you think forum sig works according to your experiences?

It will definitely help and thats why most posters have their links in their signatures!

It does help a little, and every little bit counts. So use it but don't make it your only source of backlinks.

Helps a little - especially if related content.

They're probably only good for the actual traffic, not the backlink.

    Limited in what way?

I've heard this a few times and whilst it seems quite possible to me I have not seen anyone explain WHY their effect is limited.

It does boost your google ranking esp if you have sig link in a massive forum like dp.. 1 or 2 post with you sig link wont help that much but if you have like hundreds or thousands of post with you link on your sig it surely does.

Im no expert but ide guess its limited because most of the deep forum pages you are posting on wont have a high page rank and since everyone whose posting will probably have at least 1 sig link and sometimes many you wont get much juice out of it since there's so many outgoing links on the page. I wouldn't rely on just forums for link building.

Still it cant hurt and your probably going to be posting on a forum anyway whether you get backlinks or not so you might as well put your links in ur sig, it doesn't take long.

The question then becomes - at what point is buying peoples sigs worth it? High volume of posts all with your chosen anchor text seems useful - but as you say the amount of linkjuice passed is negligable.

Something I am going to have to find a way of testing for myself - has anyone done any significant testing on this?

I think that sig links will never hurt you to have, and they also will provide you with a solution to get more eyes on your content!

I'm sure if your buying the sig of someone with hundreds/thousands of posts that many links is bound to help, I didn't realize people sell them but I guess it makes sense. I have no idea what a good price would be for something like that.

Does the forum have to be a dofollow forum in order to increase rankings?

It is probably best in a targeted forum for your websites category rather than any random forum.
