Logo contest for Primary School - $30 Prize, 2 day comp

Hi, I have been asked to supply a mockup of a new website for a local school, and I have everything done, but my graphic skills are letting me down when it comes to the logo.

The logo will need to be reproduced onto school letters (i.e. degrades nicely into greyscale please!!), as well as onto school materials, so it will need to be either a scalable vector or supplied in high enough resolution for printing, as well as for the web.

Now, the theme...fairly simple, the school is called Britannia, and currently their logo is an old fashioned Britannia woman reclining holding a trident. What I would love would be a shield (quartered??) with a standing Britannia in white holding the trident, or something similar. Im open to new ideas, but if the design is good enough it will also be transferred to uniforms at a later date (possibly).

The school colour currently is a bright red (approx hex code #FF0000) - this can be toned down to a maroon if you like, but please bear in mind the greyscale equivalent.

I know $30 isnt a huge amount, and 2 days isnt a massive amount of time, but this is a freeby project I am doing, so funds are coming out of my own pocket.......

Please post all entries onto this thread (watermarked), and feel free to be lateral with my brief....so long as it suits the school name, Im happy to see experimental stuff :) - I will do my best to provide feedback as we go....

    Good luck!

P.S. Prize will be provided to winner via PayPal on Sunday evening at 10pm British Summer Time latest.....Im on the clock here lol. I reserve the right to not award a prize if there are less than 5 entries, so keep em coming.....

    current logo variations:

A standing britannia (big nose, but you get the idea lol)

I am stunned, disappointed and completely shocked. Whilst this has been running, there are 4 other threads running offering the same prize money over the same 2 day period, and they have all been inundated with entries. Perhaps somebody could be kind enough to let me know what put people off this one? What have I said above that makes people run a mile rather than put forward an entry??

    hi logodotinfo,

well, $30 is a bit low for the level of detail and illustration skill you indicated in the brief.

that said, i do intend to join, so please wait for my entry :)

You'll notice that the other contests actually have very little 'graphic' work so to speak. They're mostly just decorated text - I think because this one takes a lot more skills, and is a lot more work, people are shying away from it. A lot of us here are still in the learning process (I actually run contests for logos myself but am slowly trying to learn the trade too) and so we stick with what we're comfortable with. It may be worth you going through the other threads and PMing those who you feel have got the skills you need. From contests I've previously done, I could recommend PMing watari, crowquill and renderworks just to name a few :) Good luck

Thanks typingmums, that does make some sense actually - was getting a tad worried the thread was invisible or something lol.

@kudajijadul - um, really not sure if you read my brief or not. This looks like a thumbnail or pic lifted from google images. If Im wrong, I hope that didnt cause offence, but Im not after that level of detail, its a sitting Britannia (not standing as requested), it has no colour and isnt gonna be particularly eye catching on a web page. Sorry, really not the kind of thing I was hoping for. Thanks for the entry though.

@l3fty - I look forward to your entry, and have just raised the prize to $40, that said I have also extended the deadline forward 24 hours.....

Prize now at $40, closing deadline for entries 10pm British Summer Time, Monday 20th July 2009

I second the suggestion to contact Watari. He's a good designer and a super nice guy.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just PMd the three suggested earlier....hopefully this will generate some interest and get a nice logo developed :) (fingers and toes crossed)

An idea of the standing Britannia - would need simplifying a little, but found this ona coin website:

ok...deadline been and gone. 3 entries in total, so i could be an arse and refuse to award a winner, but i can see that some serious work has gone into two of these designs. l3fty, please drop me a PM with your paypal addy. You arent the winner im afraid, but I would like to send some $$ over to you as thanks for your hard work. The winner is crowquill, who submitted an entry by PM, and hopefully will see fit to post his entry onto this thread later....

    Thanks everybody :)

Great to see you're happy with Crowquills work - he certainly knows his stuff doesnt he? :)

The mods will just let the thread run its course - they dont close them at the end of a contest.
