So, there are a lot of people on these forums that like to sell websites, I have a few questions. When someone sells's there website, are they usually selling the content and hosting with it? And would that mean that the buyer would have to stick with the same hoster? If I ever bought a website from someone, I'd rather have it transfered to my hosting, how would I do that? How would i have the domain transfered? What processes would have to take place between the seller and buyer, other than payment obviously. Would the seller just give the person their password and that'd be that? I doubt it is that way, since it's incredibly insecure. Thanks
They sell the domain, everything on the hosting account, and all info/rights that are theirs. The domain is trasnfered or pushed and the account is transfered to the buyers account.
Oh cool. But how is the domain "pushed" and how is the account transfered? Would you have to tell your hoster and get them to do it?
You should be able to do it all online. When you log in just use the search tool for transfer domain. Hosting is different. Usually the person who buys your site will host it elsewhere. You just need to then cancel that account.
I'm not planning on selling my domain name, but I was looking in my control panel (Plesk) and I can't see anything about transfering a domain name... I'll ask my hoster in the morning.
You can only transfer a domain from a domain registry company. Sometimes, hosting companies are both hosting and domain registrars. It's the registry site where you login and transfer the domain. Col
