My "amateur" approach to article marketing and how you can make money with it!

I received quite a few PMs with questions about my article marketing... particularly about article writing. I thought it would be a good idea to address it in this thread.

Just one thing I would like to mention first... I don't provide any article writing services! How did you get this impression? I am currently chocking with writing 25 articles per week for myself due to my very busy professional schedule.

There were also two members, who were asking about "weight loss" niche... guys, my experience is only limited to promoting my own product in "how to get your ex back" niche. I can't advise you about any specifics in your niche as I don't know anything about it. I am sorry and I hope you understand.

My approach to article marketing is very "amateurish" as my knowledge of IM is quite shallow. But one doesn't need to be a IM wise to be successful with article marketing. I have no doubt about it... just do the same I do and you will make money. Of coure, a lot of things can be improved and you should do it.

I don't do any social bookmarking of my articles as I have no time to do it ( and I don't know how ). I link my articles directly to my sale page from a resource box. Again, I had no time to build a landing page. I know it is a serious mistake and I hope to make one this weekend.

As far as writing the articles... I have been living in US for years but English is actually my third language. I don't think I will ever be a natural writer in this language. Of course, it doesn't mean that I can't write if I have to.

I have been currently outsourcing writing the articles to a female writer who is also European. She is on vacation right now so I have to relay on myself. Writing 25 articles per week is hard with my schedule.

I have compiled about 35 pages of reading materials related to my niche. The articles must be interesting! The more you know about your niche, the easier and faster you will be able to write about it.

Article marketing is writing about the same things over and over as the number of subjects related to any niche, which a reader will find interesting, is rather limited. We are taking about a dozen in my niche.

But again... the articles must be informative, interesting and fairly well written. Don't exaggerate too much and don't try to sell too much. You must be convincing as an author and if you manage to accomplish it, you are in good shape to make a sale.

I would always keep the articles at least 400 words long. These, which are getting the most URL clicks, are between 500 ~ 600 words... assuming that they are interesting enough.

The attention grabbing SEO-ed title is very important. I have a very basic knowledge of SEO so I will leave this subject to other guys who know what they are talking about. But what I do is basically optimising the article for one keyword.

Another equally important thing in article marketing is a resource box. It appears that a lot of affiliates don't seem to care too much about it. If you don't have a great resource box your number of URL clicks will decrease dramatically. The resource box should include a picture and have a bit of personal touch.

What should you aim for as an affiliate doing article marketing... at least 1 sale out of each 5 articles!

I am getting 1 sale out of each 3 ~ 4 articles on consistent bases with my very light "amateur" article marketing. The only day, I didn't make even one sale, was when I run out of articles completely for two consecutive days. In one other case I was rescued by an affiliate but again... I was out of articles too.

There is absolutely no question in my mind that if I can do it... you can do it also!

Needless to say... promoting my product will increase your chances of accomplishing this goal dramatically. But you already know that...

I hope it helps! Good luck.

Of course, without a screenshot all of the above is worth nothing.

Great post man. I'm stepping up my article marketing game as well, and will be doing along the lines of linking out to a good converting blog post. I still can't write landing pages. Well come back with the results soon!

Yes thanks for the steps. I'm planning to hire someone to write my articles, if someone is good, let me know - I like to start with 10 articles.

I hope these tips will help you to make more sales. This approach seems to be working in my case as I made two sales today and it is not even 3 PM in Chicago yet. Unfortunately, I am out of articles and considering that it is going to a hard week at work I might not have time to write them.

Some of you seem to be considering outsourcing writing of your articles. In this case you might consider to hire a CREATIVE rewriter. Like I mentioned before... article marketing is writing about the same subjects over and over... so a good rewriter will get the job done. But... you must get a CREATIVE one.

It is not going to be easy but you can find a decent rewriter for $0.005/word. Don't get discouraged if you fail at your first attempt to do it. The most likely scenario is that you will have to go through about 5 writers to find a good one. But it is absolutely possible to find one. Professionally I work with free lancers on quite regular bases so I know how it works and what to expect. It is not always easy but it is profitable.

Realistically, you have to be prepared to do some light editing... but it is almost always the case even if you hire a writer for $0.03/word.

    I hope it helps.

Of course, if you are looking for a good product to promote and actually make money with it... you have already found it. It works even for amateurs like myself. But you already know that, right?

ya you are right. There is no need to be a biggie in IM to make a sale - having interest in a niche or a micro niche is enough to make great sales. Thanks for sharing.Let us know more about your progress.

I have to admit I am rather disappointed... I am disappointed with a performance of my affiliates as no one has made even one sale. And this is something that I don't understand.

My writer is still on vacation so I was struggling immensely with submitting new articles last week. The bunch of articles, which I submitted on Fri ( Jul 10 ), have lost their magical power completely on Tue ( Jul 14 ) and I was hit with "no sale" day. Fortunately, on the same day I submitted a few fresh articles which went live at the Ezine on the same evening. I made 3 sales.

Once again... my fresh articles lost their magical power on Fri ( Jul 17 ) and I was hit with "no sale" day... it is such un unpleasant feeling.

On Fri morning ( Jul 17 ) I submitted 25 fresh articles to Ezine again. I divided publishing of them over three days... Fri, Sat, and Sun. I made 3 sales yesterday... and by the time the experiment will be over ( I mean when the articles lose their magical power again... I would say around Mon evening ) I will probably have a total of 8 ~ 10 sales made out of them.

Unfortunately, my affiliates have not made even one sale yet... except for the one I mentioned when I introduced my product. I don't understand why?

Even considering that the most of them are amateurs and semi-amateurs... but still they should have made some sales. I would imagine that there are a few pro affiliates involved too. So why no one can make even one sale while making them is rather easy for me??? You publish articles at the Ezine and you make sales... it is that simple!

do you submit your articles only to article directories to get such sales? or do you create any squidoo page or hubpages and link them back to your articles?

nice green and grey bars there, i have noticed that a article with 250 to 300 words gets more url clicks though than one with 500+
