Hi, I want to update WP from version 2.5 to 2.8.1 Big range between these versions... Would this work or I still need to find intermediate version (ie. 2.6/2.7)? Thanks
There should be no problems. However, I strongly advice you to back up your database before doing this so you can go back in case anything goes horribly wrong.
Just backup your database and upgrade. No need to find intermediate versions as the whole system is uploaded.
I don't think there is an "auto upgrade" for versions that far apart. If you're NOT running a huge amount of plugins/hacks, then it might be worth starting from scratch. Export your database (from WP) and do a clean install of the latest WP version with a fresh database. Then import the old db into the fresh empty db, then upload your old theme.
sorry , expert , but i do think do it manually will be better cauz the upgrade process will always cause u a little bugs
Upload the 2.8.1 files manually. You can follow the steps given by wordpress. Make sure you deactivate the plugins before doing so.
I do not know why but one night i upgrade my 5 blogs, that time all blogs were working functional but next day i dwongrade all 5 blogs so it will be good if u iwll take backup of blog and use wp 2.7 what i am using.
I tend to keep my sites updated as the versions come out so I've never tried the auto upgrade from 2.5 to 2.8, but make sure you have backups of both your db and your files, then just try the automatic upgrade first, if it bombs out then you can always restore the backup and do it by hand. One thing I suggest doing is making a copy of the site to something like http:// test.example.com (if your site were http:// example.com). Then you can muck around with that, work out the kinks and then when you're ready and comfortable you can do the same to the real site and you should minimize any downtime in case things go wrong. Here's some help with that (YMMV). -- Actually I can't post links yet. But doing this search gave me a lot of good results: Search for: setup development environment WordPress
