Anyone has number one rankings for there keyword? did your site fluctuate alot?

okay i have a site thats over a year old. Ive been writing articles like crazy submitting to ezines and other top article directory sites. I have a blog and i make blog posts of my site, ive done pressreleases. Ive got all the way to the 1st spot on the second page. Then ive fell to page 4 then to page 8 and now to page 10. Ive been this way for over a month. Is that normal? did i get a penalty?

 

I got number one ranking for my site in yahoo for some keywords, but its almost steady all the time. But I got fluctuations in google. When i tried to get more backlinks day by day, it was rather steady or some what near and there, but it is a long time process which needs patience

 

yeah my site got first rank few keyword like sexy orkut themes, name of few actor actress players followed by orkut themes .

 

some keywords are more competitive than others which will cause your ranking to fluctuate quite dramatically, considering your competitors are also engaging in SEO. i've noticed my site doing the same with the more competitive keywords. if your site is new, or you are targeting a new keyword, google tends to rank you high at first, then drop you down appropriately, or however they see fit. then you will sit there for a while until google finds quality backlinks revolving around the theme of your website. the point is, do not stop your SEO efforts. continue to build quality links, continue adding relevant content, submitting articles, and driving traffic to your site.

Also, make sure your website is coded properly and make sure you arent keyword stuffing. On-page SEO is also extremely important.

 

What are the keywords your using?, are they competitive enough that it's getting hard for you to rank...
Try doing other task like bookamrking your site, or even joining group discussions and forums, by this way you can have good SERPs just be sure that you got a keyword/s that could compete and have a good search results...

 

I guess either your competitors are more active or you're targeting very competitive keywords. In my opinion you should analyze your competition and start targeting few effective keyword phrases too.

 

Usually we can observe this ranking fluctuation for hyper competitive keywords. Till the site passes a certain benchmark, It bounces back and forth. So continuously build back links to win the race.

 

my site rank at #1 in yahoo for main keyword and so far it maintains there.

my site rank at #5 in google for the same keyword as above but little bit fluctuate..sometimes dropped to #7

on MSN, not under 50 positions..don't know why but have good rank for other keywords.

now i'm targeting my site to be on the first page too (in google) for my secondary keyword. Now, it is at third page but i've started aggressive marketing via social site since yesterday.

As far as what i have experienced, Ezine and Article Directory seemed to provide temporary referral traffic to your site. In the long run, it might cause you penalty or brand untrust.

 

How come?, we never had experienced it... We all know that those sites are good for backlinks and can also give you traffic but how can you penalized by submitting to them?...
