I started learning six months ago.

What has helped me learn the fastest are two used books I bought from amazon.com and this discussion group.

    HTML,XHTML & CSS
    sixth edition
    Visual Quickstart Guide

    CSS
    The Missing Manual

Andy Budd's book "CSS Mastery or Eric Meyer has a lot of stuff, just google.

word of advice: if your starting a thread and you need people to visit that's knows css and can give you references, don't name the thread 'how to learn css!', because you will only have people that are learning their self and are looking for references as well. call a thread '[req]need easy ebooks on learning css',etc.

My opinion is you can never learn from books, just start doing it and wherever/whenever stuck goto google and search for it you will learn overtime that's how I started.

you should start with a simple "Hello World" and then menus and bars etc.
and before you can say "Cascading Style Sheets" you will have a website.

As your learning it helps to look at sites you think are great and then look at their code and CS to replicate what they are doing, and then modify to do what you want. Thats how I learned alot of what I know.

try googling "Internet" lol... seriously though there is no shortcut to learn html and css... it just takes alot of practice, and if you're afraid of practice writing html and css code that you come across all over the internet... you might as well quit before you even bother starting...
