If the OS is anywhere near as good as the browser MS is in trouble. The last few MS OSs have lacked innovation and if google can deliver on what they promise (speed, security and a portal for the web) this could be epic. 1. I read that some people in this post think *nix isnt successful which isn't true. Most servers run Linux and most tech savvy people run it. 2. I think that Google OS will appeal to the masses more than existing Linux OSs because of the brand name which will help make it appeal to the masses 3. I agree that Google need to work with developers to make sure that there is a lot of great 3rd party applications but google will be aware of this and working with them now
This is not a major OS that replaces Windows/Mac. It's just a slim Linux distro which boots fast and allows you to access Web apps...
very true, they mentioned that andriod is their main operating project and Chrome OS is just supposed to intergrate the computer more with the net
Regardless of the Base Kernel or anything else for that matter what you need to understand is that what'll be easier for the user at home, how he/she will be able to deal with something new, i mean, heck i taught my grandpa how to use GMAIL in 5 minutes, how long do you think it'd take him to learn to use Google's Chrome? Ease of use for the old user is the base transition for any new operating system, and that is where most of the Linux Operating systems have failed with the common user like my grandpa
Steve Ballmer can't understand why Google needs two operating systems, Android and Chrome OS. He's forgetting about Windows Mobile - old age... Source = Can't show links....
It really is. Bill left his position (don't flame me, I know what he's done), but now it's time for Steve to do it too.
Yeah right, well i'm not going to get into this, far's i'm concerned Gates was, is and always will be a THIEF!! :| Someone should pie him again just for the hell of it
I think microsoft windows and google chrome os are quite different things on different platforms. Google chrome OS will be basically a linux distro with some google features integrated and it would use the phenomenon of cloud computing, it would be mainly for netbooks or nettops. I doubt that it will be any good for games and that any gaming company would port their game to their platform too, it would be a light OS that won't have the guts to run the current powerful games...it might become a programmers thing, though. It depends upon how much google is gonna work on it. ~TinyTot
I wouldn't blame Gates for his companies mistakes. Remember, Microsoft have their own legal department, surely they should have thought about all of this first. Just because Gates was CEO, he had to take the blame. Without him, we'd have a lot less in the world of computing.
Heh, I'd agree with you, but the thing is we GREW UP with windows, if i introduce you to a language from the start and you learn and grow up with that, then of course you'll find it different or difficult to transit to something else later, the same goes for Windows and Microsoft :/
Not at all,,,, atleast not so fast... microsoft is truly into the market ... and microsoft will not allow google to do so, so easily...
That's the whole point of HCI (Human Computer Interaction), making a process as simple and straight forward as can be. The first OS I used was Win 3.0, look at the change from that to Win 95. Again, 2000/ME to XP. XP to Vista and Vista to 7. Big changes yet a lot of people can grasp them.
Wrong. That's the initial target only. If ChromeOS runs "Native Client", it will be able to run any games as fast as anything you are running now and THAT is why I say Microsoft and Windows will be doomed.
