so I just ordered VPS with full root access in order to make my sites faster however I'm completely new to this I've only had shared hosting before so I was hoping someone might be able to help me out. How can I edit my sites files it's running up and everything but I don't know where exactly I can edit my files like on shared hosting.

Well, a vps needs to be looked at like a dedicated server. You need to ensure all the correct services are installed and setup correctly. Did you get a control panel with your vps, ie cPanel, DA, other? If there is not control panel, things will have to be setup via command line, or, install a free control panel.

Have to build locate db first. Login, su to root, run "updatedb"

If uncomfortable with servers, maybe back to shared would be best. Make fly not real good reason to upgrade when dealing with learning curve.

Individual sites should be within /home/ directory. Depends on OS and install method though. Look there. Should be able to manage via CPanal though.

Copy of Linux for Dummies may be good idea, just as a reference book and list of commands.

    Hope helps

Have you gone through the setup for WHM to ensure that your host name and everything is setup correctly? Are you transferring from cPanel to cPanel? If so, there is a import script that should set up your accounts for you.
