Do people search Digg, Twitter, And MySpace in the same way we do Google and Bing? I am just wondering if you think the wroting for low hanging fruit concept would work if applied to sites like youtube and? Do you think that the traffic ( by ratio of course, not volume) would be consistant with Google and Yahoo search inquiries? Do you search Digg, etc, the same way you do Google?

Social networking sites like twitter and facebook can bring some traffic, but such traffic is not targeted. In other words, traffic from these sites is worthless. You rarely get buyers who are interested in transactions. Traffic from Google and other search engines bring quality traffic that generate sales and leads. So, I would not waste the time on these social network sites no matter what you heard from the media. People use the social network sites for purposes very different from that of search engines.

Couldn't disagree more with mpls - escpecially about twitter. People DO use twitter search and increasingly use it for real time searches and real-person recommendations. For a lot of news events it's becoming the first choice - for example when Michael Jackson died, twitter search was up-to-date on the breaking news - Google was not

I think some people might be confusing me asking if social media is good for SEO in the traditional sense, backlinks to Google. I am totally taking that out of the equation and wanting to know how much do you use the search boxes on social media sites. Sorry if it was convoluted in the beginning.

I would need to disagree on this.... I plus a handful of other people are currently making money off facebook, twitter, youtube and myspace. If you couldn't make money off it people wouldn't be spamming it all day long.

the idea is to bring traffic from Twitter. If you have 20,000 followers and you post an "interesting" tweet, they may click. It's all about your followers. As far as twitter search, currently it is popular but it may take a while to catch on. I've been finding myself using Twitter Search for breaking news. For instance, I found out that Steve McNair was killed before CNN even had it posted on their website from Twitter.

I have never used twitter or facebook (or myspace) for any search related purpose - at least till now. Google fulfills my requirements so i do not see any reason why i should do otherwise.

People on the social network primarily use such networksfor networking and socialising - search is secondary here. But there are signs that people are increasingly getting attracted to real time searches as provided by applications like twitter.

Let me know whether Forums can bring target traffic or they are only for the purpose of building back links?

Okay been reading all the articles and posts about twitter. Okay here it is in a nutshell. There are now more sites being written for mobile devices than desktops, this means that websites are going to be even more accessible than ever before.

I used to run in to my summer house in the garden to check my emails, reply to them, check face book and now I do this from the sofa? On the train? On the loo? Ok too much info.

My point is twitter came in early and its taking time for everyone to jump on it, facebook people loved and love it more now that they can open it on their mobiles and update it. I have an iphone and use twitterific and facebook, it’s easy to access and update. This will happen for more and more users in the world and twitter and other social media sites will be the initial point of search. Hey I even have Google app installed and use this for searching too. I added a book mark to my blog the other day to facebook, this was posted to my wall and I had over 200 people visit the blog and post to it. Now the target audience might not have been right but the aim was to drive traffic to the site from facebook and to get someone to post something. IT worked.

You have to gather the right followers on twitter, and it has to be part of your strategy, not the whole strategy.

You should never put all your eggs in one basket when it comes to traffic sources. Use a good combination of several and focus on where the conversions come from. Follow the money. For some products it's Google, and some it's Twitter.

I sell a Twitter friend adder, and a lot of the people I've talked to make a majority of their money on twitter right now. But they are posting interesting stuff, and really engaging with their followers, something that's essential to success on twitter. You can't just create an account and post a few links and wait for the money to come in, you have to be very dedicated.

One of the things that I value very highly about Twitter is the way that it allows me to tap into an amazing community of people from around the world to find out what they are thinking, feeling and experiencing in different ways.

the answer is YES. it's kinda of social networking .
Social networks allow you to build large lists of contacts and supporters that can help to spread the word about your business and Web site.
