"Or Else" WHAT? I'm not sure I understand. "or face the threat of economic and diplomatic sanctions." Again, "or else" WHAT? So if Iran does not stop the enrichment of Uranium, the UN is going to yell at them? Didn't we go through this over with Iraq, several UN resolutions and about 12-14 years of "economic and diplomatic sanctions?" My pick for the Darwin Award this year is Kofi and the UN !
a second harsh letter will be sent; and it'll end in 2 !'s , maybe even the dreaded triple exclamation point
I know they will not, hence they will force another US led intervention. Actually they will do something about it. They, meaning their partner in a few nameless countries, including Kofi, will profit from the "sanctions".
Heh, I was about to post the same thing. Those oft feared harsh letters when the UN springs into action are very intimidating
I've heard many european countries don't even think hezzabollah is a terrorist group (or atleast they won't call them that). The UN is a bad example of authority,.... I'd say it would be good if it was held to a higher standard, and I do believe something similiar to it is absolutely necessary. As-is it's deceptive and destructive....it's pressures just elongate violence rather than ending it. I think war and violence is terrible, but nothing is worse than a middle-man that inserts his own interest above and beyond the two presented. World war two saw massive civilian casualties and people kept trying to excuse hitler again and again....until it wasn't a chose and literally it put us in a situation which I think now-a-days we'd not be capable of understanding. Back then we fought as our enemies fought....generally we gave some mercy to women and children, but most often we carpet bombed/nuked Japan and Germany without consideration. Had we not, I don't think we would have won on either front. It's dangerous when standards are dictated by idealism and not reality. The UN lives in a fantasy-minded and corrupt world...I really fear world war 3 not because of the war itself, but because I know my enemy will give me no quarters and people will be trying to impose standards (on my protectors) that will only keep the conflict going.
Had Israel not had bunkers galore...roughly a million in bunkers in Israel,...then a lot more would be dead. Had they had more complicated weapons the same would apply. If we continuely have the UN seize fire--temporarily....these terrorist will get something big and they will use it. I'd say no matter how sad and gray the situation is, it's a lot better to handle the problem now, than to live within an idealistic world that will eventually lead to a mushroom cloud. Then you'll see an sort of civility thrown out of the window. I fear that's envitable, given the fantasy morality of the UN and most moral powers out there. We have to remember the history of our former wars and we have to resolve conflicts based on long-term goals and not temporarily. Sometimes that means we should let conflicts follow through...within reason.
UN can't do a shit, if they really want to stop the Uranium in Iran, so they should stop it in the hole other countries who have it too, like US, Israel, China, and few more...
The resolution was just a harsh statement. Russia and China already said they don't favor sanctions. Therefore, when Aug 31 comes and goes, nothing will be done. The Security Council will eventually meet and vote on sanctions. China and Russia will vote no (actually China will probably refrain from voting if they are certain Russia will vote no). That will be that.
Right, and let the US fight Israel's war. It is doing wonders for both countries. Everyone in the world seems to love Americans and Jews.
Did I miss some altered reality that suggests the US fighting Israel's war? I hope not; hezbollah doesn't have enough civilians to hide behind with the US involved. "America should butt out!" "American should step in!" Some people just can't be pleased. "Thank ya...thank ya very much!"
Actually the US is completely out of it. Hopefully we have the good sense to keep that policy (for the moment). So if I understand you correctly, Jews should find a way to promote spontaneous combustion, so the job once started can finally be completed. And... Americans should stay out, get involved, stay out, get involved, stay out, get ...... A great many people have pretty much always hated Americans. My first trip to Europe in 81 pretty much confirms, not much has changed in that regard. And... A great many people have pretty much always enjoyed charcolizing Jews. Hmmm, not much has changed there. The only difference now is, they skip the tattoos and crematory/gas chambers in favor of launching rockets under the cover of women and children. Yes, if Jews would just all die, and give up their land, and America would just die and stop defending her borders and the borders of her allies, the world would be a better place. You are spot on the most intelligent person I have ever run across in a thread at DP. I rank you one notch above Kofi!
