Hi Just started a web directory on an existing P3 domain. jetpackpilot.com I need a category dump that is suitable for version 3.4 or some kind of list with instructions of how to upload. I searched through the admin control panel and there seems to be no option to upload even a txt list of categories. Please help me. Also anyone interested can submit a free link. Just choose the "free - nofollow" link option and i will change it to do-follow in my admin for you
Try this? Don't see why later versions wouldn't work with mysql category input. http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11567 As far as a do follow link in a usually nofollow directory.... It's probably a losing directory proposition to begin with. No thanks but best of luck with that. Sure you'll succeed where everyone else failed.
You can get good support there at their own forum phplinkdirectory.com/forum/ regarding any help related to phplinkdirectory. BTW i suggest you to add categories yourself one by one instead of dumping all at once (common categories). DON.
Hi thanks for your reply. It is only the free/non reciprocal links that are no-follow. I might change it any way, just testing the waters. Very new to link directories. I tried using this dump and as other people have noted in that thread I re-ran the install after. But I have a problem that the sub categories are not working, they are redirecting to home page. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Deluxdon is right. If you really wanted to created a good directory you'd add your own as you go. Otherwise Search engines and people will see it for what it is. The nofollow approach makes it worthless off the bat. Even if featured or paid are regular links just the "shady" practice of no follows will deter those as well. Most SEO's will leave in about 2 seconds flat seeing nofollow links disregarding your directory as worthless.
I appreciate the advice of those more knowledgable about link directories. I originally set up the directory offering dofollow links for paid, and reciprocal links. It is only the free links with no reciprocal that are set to no-follow. I noticed a lot of directories are taking this tact to encourage reciprocal links, or paid links. Is this kind of set up a bad idea? Would you recommend giving everyone free, non reciprocal links on a PR 3 Directory?
As you are starting directory on existing PR3 domain then good for you to give some free submissions at beginning stage (10-15 days to 1 month) and later on you can make it complete paid directory. You have to decide what to do further as afterall its your directory DON.
Thanks for the advice. I think this is a good idea and I have updated the directory already Can you recommend where to advertise to get link submissions?
You can announce your directory at Solicitations & Announcements section. Also announce it throughout other webmasters forums. DON.
well said Don, categories should always be inputed manually, this way you can build a unique category structure
