Ok, here’s the deal. A friend of mine I've been training with in wrestling that I met a few months back is in a dilemma. He is from a satellite country off Russia and came to the states with a work visa. Employers in the area do this often as employees are hard to find in this tourist destination. Anyhow it looks like the expiration on his working visa is coming up and needs help staying in the country. He works 60-80 hours a week in the sun at a local carwash and trains for wrestling whenever he gets a chance. Very Very good wrestler, I must say. He wants to become a citizen and pay his taxes. He doesn't want to go back to his home country if he can help it. He talked about finding a wife just for the paperwork, but that might not be easy to find. Are there any loopholes, maybe joining the armed services, getting a sponsorship (heck he's been doing community service every week this whole summer at the local high school teaching kids how to wrestle), or anything? I'd really like to help the guy out. He's such a hard worker and nice guy, it doesn't seem fair there are 10 million illegals here from Mexico, and this guy can't stay (I suppose he could be illegal but I doubt he would want that). Thanks in advance.
He work in a cars wash? it is lucky that he 've got a working visa...there is no way for him to get a Citizenship with that job. Fake marriage will be the easiest way i would say. I am not sure about Florida but publich school are really short of teacher and they kind of take anyone who are qualify to teach (May be he can teach russian)
His best bet is to get an immigration lawyer and to apply for another visa when he is still in the country. This would come in at a cost of around $7000 and may take 6 months for the paperwork to complete. the price may vary from lawyer to lawyer. However he will need a sponser from a company but he may get lucky if the school help him out, after all he is helping to teach sport. The visa he would be looking to get, if he had sponsership, would be a DV1 Visa. Take a look at this and he might just find a visa category that he will fall into.
Yes it is very expensive but well worth it if you have a well paid job in the U.S. you'll make it back within a year of saving.
It might easier to have girl friend and marry? I think work visa is more difficult than marriage and get green card. I heard that in CA, so many fake marriage happened. maybe try to get student visa first?
If he goes for marriage better be with a friend he can trust and not some sleazebag who do it for money. Should get a friend who is not planning on marriage in the next two years at least and would really be willing to help out.
PM Nintendo Re: the fake marriage thing. He does it for a fee as little at $9.99 and a bucket of KFC Chicken.
If he does find a girl to marry, tell him to get a joint checking account (balance doesn't matter) and take the printed checked to the immigration meeting. My British wife was almost denied her papers because we got married in Vegas and had no joint account. The only thing that saved us was that her mother signed the wedding certificate as a witness.
