Is it legal to run a discriminating website?

I was just thinking last night 'Is it legal to run a discriminating website'? One that openly talks about another society or community? I've never really read anything online about it.

Talking about other societys isn't discrimination though, no matter what you say about them.

Anyway, talking about a society in General would be legal. If you slandered certain members of that society, then you may be open to legal action.

it is against all standards - moral, ethic and spiritual standards to discriminate anyone at all for any reason

most fortunately are so busy improving self that they never can think of such waste of time and valuable resources

many or most hosts may shut down such sites as it may be against national laws as well

love leads to tolerance and is the key to avoid such thoughts from the early beginning from even occuring in a mind

It's depends what you say when you talk about others community.
It depends also in which country.
In France, for instance, racial, religious, sexual ... discriminations should end with legal actions.
The same for promoting hate against a community.
And I guess it's true in many countries.

The first amendment but it doesn't mean you can say anything you want.

What site are you looking at setting up? In different countries different things are legal. You can usually get away with publishing opinions, but most countries (and webhosts) have rules against hate speech.

I don't think it would illegal. There are tonnes of "I hate Britney" websites around, etc. Plus, the press seem to always be bitching about someone.

I depends on the topic, a I hate Britney site would be fine as it's personal opinion - as long as he doesn't start stalking her or writing libelous comments.
I hate black people on the other hand he'd get closed down pretty quickly.

I think it's horrible that people would ever do that "I hate black people" example, but I think people should be allowed if they want. Especially on the Internet, I like this place being the embolem for free speech and I hate it that countries are making more and more laws concerning it.

I don't. If something is based on a particular ideology or logic then fine. But hating someone for the colour of their skin is crazy.

I'll support someones right to say they don't want immigrants for example, but to say they don't want black/asian/chinese immigrants is just wrong.

Isn't theree a law in the UK about running sites that discriminate against handicapped people? Thought I rad that somewhere.

It's not enforced very tough but it's still a law from what I understood.

"I hate blacks" is not illegal to say in the UK it comes under freedom of speech and is not inciting racial hatred, however if i was to say "burn all blacks" than thats inciting racial hatred, however although its legal for me to run down the highstreet shouting "i hate black" no 1 would recommend it if you wonna stay alive.

No, it isn't. Think about what the above entails. That would mean it's wrong to discriminate against people for being racist, sexist, lawless jerks.

We all discriminate. You can hardly live your life without making value judgements about other people's behaviour, for instance.

Okay, I know I'm being a bit pedantic here. But can we please have a more specific idea of what you mean by discrimination? Talking openly about another society or community could be anything from a general discussion forum about the Elbonians and their cultural quirks, to a diatribe about everything you hate about the Elbonians and why you consider them less than human.

Just before I get shot, I'm not looking to setup a hate site! lol. :D

I'm just wonder.. free speech.. how free is it? Is it legal to say 'I don't like bla bla bla, I hate them.. I wish they never existed, they should all be kicked out for doing this that and the other?'

I'm in the UK too and some of the large sites have been charged with discriminating against websites that arnt friendly for disabled people.. I'm quite sure they didnt do it intentionally but who knows? These day's you can get charged for everything!:p

    One more thing.. domains.

This would probably be acceptable www.IHate<name here>.com
Would this be acceptable www.<swearword><name here>.com

When talking about a company watch out for trademark infringements, I'd check with a lawyer for example before using their company name in your domain.

Why start a website that discriminate against anything? Wouldn't it be better to start one that gives constructive criticism? Criticism can be very negative, but interesting to read and even helpful. Also, the site wouldn't run into legal issues so easily too.
