Reddit a complete waste of time for new site owners

I think reddit has to be one of the most frustrating social sites around. Ive been trying to promote my new car blog but after the first few days ran into so many issues.

    - people seem to complain about everything you write, even though my level of work is pretty good as said by many
    - unless you have an army of at least 20-30 redditers to up your posts, forget trying to get to the top spot since there are ppl who vote down without even checking the posts
    - reddit and adsense, Forget about it. With my analytics, reddit brought in about a couple thousand visits, but return not a single dime worth of ad clicks
    - unless ur content is uber hott, its gonna get pushed down the new list within minutes

Thanks for the heads up. That's good info to know before I waste too much time on it.

All I ever use those sites for are to get my pages indexed in google. The traffic from them blows chunks... especially Reddit.

    redditor are too smart =)

they know BS when they see it - and know not to click on ads.

I love reddit.. only the good stuff makes it to the top, not people self promoting.

I disagree. A lot of nonsense makes the top.

LOLBOX, some dude wondering what sex would be like with a baby, Obama looking at some chic's butt... there are barely in serious stories on a regular basis.

Reddit is meant for established websites that offer high quality content. It's not meant for users to advertise & market sites that don't offer value to a mainstream audience.

completely agree with your points... brings useless traffic... 99.99% of reddit users, doesn't even read a single line in what you post.. just thumb up or down...

Some guys say here that only good stuff makes it to the top - Still USELESS!!! brings nothing besides useless green bars in your counters... nothing more

The userbase is definitely too intelligent/protective to be fooled by MFA sites. Imo it's one that should be left alone unless you have some actual content worth posting.

Yes, that's the truth, if your hoping of making money with reddit (or even digg) traffic just forget it, those
guys are to smart to click or be fooled by any ads.

Do it for SEO purposes (as u are already doing), it helps in the long run.

Reddit is not a waste of time at all, at least not for it's users. It may suck for you that you are not able to spam it with auto-blogs, MFA sites, etc etc.. but it's in the best interest of the users.

(I am talking in general, don't know if you're doing this..)

One of the benefits of using Reddit is that you can get a great deal of exposure and so people could read your blog post and then link back to your page via a blog, forum, Twitter etc if it raises enough interest. But yes, many of them (alike the Digg crowd) don't click on ads, but in actual fact many of them don't get the chance to even see them, as they use that hemorrhoid of a Firefox addon that blocks ads from being displayed. I do like Reddit though and with previous tests it sent through more traffic to an old blog than Digg and StumbleUpon sent through.:D
