This has been discussed many of times in my life.

You have to just learn how to stop.. I mean personally I tried smoking, and it was utterly disguisting.

My uncle smokes, he goes through $100 a week on ciggies, I see it as a waste of money.

I'd start by ringing the support lines.

    Just Start avoiding it,
Stay Busy, eat Nicotine chewing Gums
If you do smoke with friends change their company
Count on fingers your daily count, start decreasing the number every day (if you are a heavy smoker)
And at Last Be Confident you can do anything quitting this is nothing just an easy task.

    Nicotine patches.

I used to smoke at least a packet a day. I gave up in 2001, and I really think making it through the first month was all thanks to using nicotine patches. It's not just that they reduce nicotine cravings, but they're nearly as expensive as cigarettes - so you feel financially obliged not to smoke.

i used to be a smooker, i want to share my story with you...

i started smoking at the age of 17
i was smoking 2 packs per day
when i reached 25 i was coughing very hard, like an old man
so i decided to quit, i quit in 02/11/2007 (why not 01/11/2007m because simply i smoked and postponded the quiting to the next day :D)

    (i live alone)
anyway, i did nothing, i simply stopped smoking, like that!
the 1st night i was like crazy i wanted to smoke, i even started insulting my self loudly (you $tupid can't live without this $hit! you're like a slave for that cigarite! be a man! do it for your fiancee!...etc)

i remeber that night like it was yesterday, i even remember hitting my self in the face to stop thinking about it!

after that night, and until now, i hate the smell of the smoke :)

here's some things to share with you :)

*don't listen to any one tells you it's hard, it's VERY easy, just FOCUS!
*focus your thoughts on seeing your self talking with your friends and NOT smoking, keep picturing your self like this!
*think of someone you love and wants you to quit smoking, do it for her/him! the power of true love is great beleive me!
*when you wake up, DO NOT smoke, eat breakfast instead.
*always fill your time with anything, video games, chatting, internet...anything!
*beleive me, it's only painful in the 1st 2 days, after that you're free!

i wish you all the best :)

You need to have a strong desire to quit it yourself. Without your own will power forcing you, it would be tough to give it up easily! :(

I tried to (seriously) quit at least 10 times in the late 90s - and lasted a week at the most.

My 2001 attempt was the first time I'd tried using patches - and it worked. So I'm crediting them with the success. It wasn't easy, but it was WAY easier than not using them. I was really ready to quit though - which I think is important. But still, without the patches I think I would have failed a few more times before I succeeded.

I have noted that i am giving up also and the Nicrorette Gum is what i am using and this seems to be working well for me because i also have the complete will to give up smoking because of health and carrer prospects.

Wanna quit smoking? Don't punish yourself by quitting smoking at once. Go slow... Reduce the number of sticks you smoke, slowly down to zero. Your nicotine habit would wear off slowly. If you rush, you'll only end up feeling pain and eventually go back to smoking...

Go slow and steady... is my advice.

The best way to quit smoking is to reduce it as much as you can. like from 4 a day to 2 and then 1... then 1 in 2-3 days and so on. yes it works, i have seen my uncle reduce it greatly. You can also try to break the cigerate into half, and through out the non filter part and take in the filter one. this way you will further reduce it.

Slowly with time, you will be able to completely put a stop to it. :)

I had a friend who half filled a jam jar with cigarette butts and topped it up with water. He then left it on the window sill for a few days to fester in the sunlight. The result was the most foul smelling liquid you can imagine. He kept that jar close by and every time he felt like smoking he inhaled the putrid fumes.
