Backlinks on forums not making any impact

The quote above is a good intro to my problem.

I've been posting on forums for the past month a lot and all of the posts have links in signatures.
After a month google doesn't show any of those links in "link to my site" on webmaster tools...why could that be, is it normal?

P.S. all of the links/forums are "dofollow"

Even if that was the case, why aren't those links showing in webmaster tools in "links to your site"? And it's not just those from forums but from blog comments and directories also...

Are those forums regularly crawled forums?

Are you profile and posts visible to the bot?

Both the link: operator AND the "links to your site" page in Google webmaster tools show only a SAMPLE of your links. Neither shows all of your links... In fact, Google often includes links in the output of the link: operator and "links to your site" page that they know about but are not even counting as links to your URLs (such as NOFOLLOW links and links from pages known to be under penalty and not passing you PR).

If your URL has lots of inbounds, the link: operator usually shows only a small sample... The "links to your site" page generally shows more than link: but in many cases it is still just a small sample.

Forum signature links come and go rather quickly even when they do find them and give you credit. It's usually not long before the page where you made your post falls way back in the list of forum posts for that particular forum, and many will get deindexed (which means you will no longer get credit for the link).

Also, as others said, depending on the forum where you're posting Google may or may not be devalueing those links. If you want credit for forum posts, try to post on well respected, trusted forum sites. Forum sig links are a common spam tactic so many forums known to be abused by spammers likely have their outbound links devalued.

This is correct, and probably answers your question. In addition, the way you provide links in your signature and forum posts can affect whether or not they're indexed, and how useful they are to you.

Take a look at this article on contextual links for more information on the best way to use back links.

Having said all that, information about back links, Google, and SEO is easy to come by and difficult to prove (or disprove). I suggest you take advice with a grain of salt, unless the author can back it up with a site on page one for at least one decent key word phrase.

Currently, I can do that for lead generation. But who knows going forward? Google is a black box, and you and I are on the outside looking in.

And the proof to back this statement up is where?

Forum backlinks, by themselves, are not going to put you on the front page of a competitive search. They will positively influence your rankings though, especially if you use good anchor text.

When you look at a DP page (for instance) there are literally hundreds of OB links and very low PR. Thus, there is very little "link juice" being passed. But, there is a lot of anchor text influence being passed.

Don't believe this? Do some allinanchor: searches

These are the questions you need to ask, if they are being crawled then they should be indexed.

Make sure the forum has dofollow links. One other thing you probably want to consider with forum links is that they generate traffic for your site that often turns into natural links. If you have a good site and people in the niche like it you'll get links from their site. So think about link building as a long term process instead of a quick hit.

Google is reputed not to show all the backlinks, rather Google shows a partial list of links. If you wanna find out the real scenario you can use some tools available to buy or could be free.

Like other SEO tricks forum postings should also follow some rules.
Post on topics related to your niche.
If you start a thread answer as much as you can on that thread. That would get you better keyword density.

    It is really confusing!!
You post on relevant forums and include links in your posts to your site. You also take advantage of the signature feature so that every one of your posts has an optimized anchor text link to your site. And because forums don't have no follow in their user’s generated content very often.-if you start a thread yourself, you can control the title and much of the content of the page your link will sit on, thus ensuring relevancy in the eyes of the search engine.
Sounds good but still remember, forums have a lot of outgoing links so the link value per link is devalued greatly. Therefore, not a lot of 'link juice' will be passed via links from forums. Many experts in the industry are of the opinion that forum signatures are of very little SEO value but that they're very useful for getting referral traffic, especially if from a respected poster.
Well, don't centre your campaign on this method. Make sure you don't spam the forum (by not participating in it and then immediately plugging your business blatantly) and be sure that its niche is relevant to yours.

Hey buddy, I am sure, the forums postings is the best thing to get more SERP and more backlinks, actually google does not show all the links....however, those are counted by google. I have some good experience in this case, I jumped from 6th page to 1st page on google only with the help of forums....:) So, we cannot say forum postings are not bad.....

Usually, backlinks from forums is related to increase traffic from referrals. For SEO purpose, it won't give that good impact. So, I suggest you to concentrate on other link building method instead of depending on forum only. Some SEO expert likes to get only one link from one domain. Maybe, you can try to follow this rule for your link building strategy.
