So I have been playing with websites and SEO for a few years now with varying degrees of interest. I've been working on a new website (It's actually a website about pets) and I will be ready to start marketing it and working on off site SEO very soon. I was hoping to get some input from other people, what do you usually do when you have just finished your website (added lots of content, got the design right, done some on site SEO)? This thread is designed to get some good ideas not only for myself but for other up and coming web masters. So do you follow a basic strategy for each website? I was planning on the following to generate traffic and good SEO: Pay someone to do 1000-2000 directory submissions with my site's name as the anchor text (This is to just build back links) Link exchange with other relevant websites Post on related forums with my link in my signature Possibly write some articles including links to my website and pay someone to submit them to article directories Can anyone add to this list? What else do you do with a brand new site?
Great thread idea. I'm currently in the same position. I've established a site, but still working on content. At the moment, I'm not really sure the next step. I'll keep reading....
I create blogs too on free blog sites and write a few blog posts spread out over the month. Always good for backlinks.
Don't think I would make 2000 submissions with just one anchor tag, especially on your website name. I would break it up to about 3 anchor tags for about three different keywords you want to start to rank for if out are going to do submission. Also write articles, blogs, get on social networking site..... continue to participate on forums. Just know that it can take some time.... don't quit you can get there.
get 10-20 pr4-pr8 back links. I dont find directories very effective. I bought 1500 directory submissions and most of them got accepted but google hasn't indexed them for months
What i do for new websites is: - Publish a press release - Do some article publishing - Social bookmarking - I also look to buy one or a couple static links from related websites with PR4+ - Blog reviews are also nice Cheers!
Lets start you off on the right path. Hopefully this is something you are passionate about....if so continue to read the advice below. First you must pick 3 methods of online marketing that you think you can master..this can include article submission " if you are writing article", creating classified ads on websites such as usfreeads.com, forum marketing on different forums that pertain to your niche, ppc or seo " I suggest reading books and learning about these things from someone or a group of people who are already successful in this area. Makes no sense to spend money using advice from a novice. You can also market by creating a blog with constant updates and unique content, doing press releases " never don't this, but they can make you a lot of money if you learn from the right people". if you want to learn how to master 3 marketing methods you should go to either a moderator on a forum who is already successful online at least making 6 figures a year, because other wise they are just giving you info that does work, If so they would be making money....GET IT If you want to market your website good online, you can even contact the Internet Marketing Center. Its a multi million dollar company that creates success for people online everyday.... I hope this helps! Remember...Master 3 methods...seek a mentor and watch you bank account grow.
I wouldn't underestimate the power of a good article. A well written and marketed (free) article on the right article site will drive a lot of traffic.
Thanks for all the good advice so far, I will try and add a couple of different keywords to the directory submissions. Should I point those keywords at the homepage? or should I point those keywords to pages that are also using those keywords? So for example if my website was www.dog.com and one of my keywords was "dogs flea removal" would my link on that keyword be to www.dog.com or my page that also is targeted at "dogs flea removal" www.dog.com/dogs_flea_removal.html ? Will it matter? It seems that article marketing is a good way to go then. Can anyone list a few article sites that are worth submitting too? Or is it better to just buy a package from someone?
You missed in your list "Press Release" Press Release submissions are great way.. I am offering Guranteed in Top of Google News service. Check this link.
Add content, write blogs, comment on other's blogs, write ezine articles, press releases, social blogs (squidoo, etc.), have a presence on social bookmarking sites (facebook, myspace), good content, add pages, good meta tags, keyword placement, directory listings.... every day
In the past Ive focused on directory submission but since I didn't want to pay others to submit for me it got really boring and in the long run I don't think it was a huge help. I'm starting to try article writing and I think its working better, the pages with my link seem to have higher PR than most directory pages and less other links on the same page. Sometimes I come across other article sites I didn't use that have published my article but the link back to my site is now nofollow, seems like they should at least have to keep the link dofollow
I can do for my new website. First i will start Blog comments, Forum Post and Social bookmarks that i can get fast index in Google. than start Directory submission, Article submission and many other methods but i can do daily some blog comments, Forum post and Social bookmarks so that y my site getting index fast and crawling fast. so start this methods.
Just throwing in my two cents, DO NOT think there is one formula. Every site is different and they will require differing advertising techniques.
I just got into SEO's and Google Ad's and whatnot... I guess you're just a bit ahead of me. I've made one site about the Korean DMZ, just gotta do some link building.
Some really good advice here, thanks a lot mate! Even if your website is about a specific pet would you still bother with facebook/myspace? There would be users out there that also like animals so this isn't a bad idea actually. Blog comments are a good idea too! I'll have to find some relevant blogs and make some good contributions to them. I hear you! I didn't mean to make my post sound as if there was one universal way to start promoting your website and getting traffic, I was just hoping we could all brain storm a bit since getting started is often the hardest part. The best advice I can give you is to start a website about something you really enjoy. If you can manage this then it will be a lot easier to find motivation to do updates and you will enjoy watching your site grow a lot more, it won't feel like work! Thanks a lot for the ideas guys, I will add these suggestions to my original post for easy reading. -> looks like you can't edit day old posts actually Hoping to hear more ideas and other peoples experiences
