Google operating system to take on Microsoft Windows.Google is planning its own operating system, in a direct challenge to Microsoft and its Windows hegemony. The New York Times and tech-news site Ars Technica, broke the news on their respective websites. Inquiries from the press forced Google to disclose the news a day earlier, last night, on their official blog, which gives a light rundown on why they're doing what they're doing. In a nutshell, Google is looking to expand its Chrome web browser as an operating system for the cheap netbooks that have proliferated in the marketplace. Some initially believed we'd see a version of Android, Google's mobile computing platform, transmogrified into some type of operating system. But Google went with the Chrome platform instead. In the company's own words
I bet Google is gonna pull this one off pretty well. They seem to be aiming for a light-loading OS that could run light-loading apps i.e. mobile apps. However, to make it a success, their OS has to be GPL so that it can be embraced faster not only by users but also developers. They're doing something like that for Android already. I'm pretty excited about this, can't wait to try it out on my netbook once it's released.
I have heard about Google Android for PC , and now it comes true, a new operating system for platform , what made from Google is excellent, thanks for giving !
Yup.. thats really cool.... google has planned a very good subject to fire microsoft... lets w8 and see what is it actually..!!
Google is making a lot more good products. I heard that Google wave will be launched by the end of this year and it will replace Microsoft outlook. I'm looking forward to using it.
What I heard on BBC is that it is an operating system like windows but maybe with less features where some applications may not work well with. The best part - It's FREE. Thumbs up for Google.
LOL Let's see the first public release when it will be available and judge then. Google usually makes high-quality products, so expectations may by higher, I think it's good something new is coming on OS market...
I Wouldnt say microsoft coz its got a large market base already but maybe linux coz people using linux are the people who actually use OS other than windows..
The success of this will mostly depend on the partners that will join them in their venture. If for example a large home pc or laptop provider will work with google, it will result in a possibly large market share.
I heard Google talking about cloud computing about 2 years ago. I thought, well if they started talking about it means they are going to do it. Sure enough, here it comes. I think this is the 1st step in their big game.
I also read about Google to launch Chrome OS in 2010. I think its a great move from Google and they would be able to take away some market share from Microsoft, if not all. Its see how it works out.
