Microsoft is a huge corporation with hundreds of offerings. Its not going under without a fight. It has been universally accepted. You cannot shake it easily...

I still use MS products coz its the best platform for software and games. Linux was good, but there's nothing a Linux can do that a Windows PC cannot...

Most probably Google OS would be based on Linux. There no other option. Google is not going to reinvent the wheel...

    EDIT: Official Confirmation -- http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/introducing-google-chrome-os.html

Here's an article about it from Gizmodo -- http://gizmodo.com/5309736/google-chrome-os-for-pcs-look-out-windows-and-os-x?skyline=true&s=i

Its a Web-centric OS... I wonder how successful it would be in competing against heavy-duty OSes like Windows 7 and Linux Distros...

MS won't be under any immediate threat from Google chrome OS, because it is an undisputed player in the OS field but competition is good for any business to flourish.

I understand you dislike Internet Explorer... its absolute crap... I agree..

But in my opinion. MS engineers are just as good at designing an OS as anyone else in the competition. Unless Google OS magically ports itself to MS apps, it has no chance...

To the contrary, all *nixes are far more advanced than Windows could ever hope to be and there are many more things you can do on *nix than Windows.

Try this. Login to another computer in another city and run any application on that computer in your system as if you were there. Now, do that 10 times on the same computer.

    Just use RemoteAnywhere... :) -- http://www.remotelyanywhere.com/

In other news, Wired.com has posted an excellent article about Google OS -- http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/07/five-things-googles-chrome-os-will-do-for-your-netbook/

    Its basically a Netbook-only OS.

Nope. I said, do it 10 times on the same computer, that is, 10 open instances on your computer. And switch between any of them with one keystroke.

Note that software uses some *nix software.
Nope. It will first come out for netbooks but it is not netbook only.

Amazing, i knew this was coming. Google is kinda copying Microsoft and is bringing it down one by one.. although i still don't prefer chrome when it comes between IE and chrome.

This is basically the same thing as the gOS, thinkgos.com , it's all designed to make your computer boot fast as hell, shutdown even faster and you can do the basics like pdf viewing etc. Now if they were coming out with the ability to have the features of gOS and then be able to pwn your friends in a game of cod5 or css then Microsoft would have someone to give them a run for their money. I know that Red Hat and Microsoft are both working on their own versions of a cloud operating system. My bet is that microsoft will end up the victor in that battle as they have the resources to put all of their services on their own localized servers, eventually your office products will be a service thatyou connect to on microsofts servers instead of having to install everything on your own PC.
