Holy cow! Cool. I'll be buying a netbook just to install it and see what it's like when it comes out :p

Maybe they'll have built in Google Ads on the desktop. Contextual based upon the files you have on your desktop. Great news nonetheless. Thanks for sharing.

I'm not promoting my own blog, just my opinion on the thing. It's up to you to decide if you want to read or not.

    That's true,
But, in that case, you should mention that the link points towards your opinion.

Since it is open source, I don't really think there'll be ads...it will be easy to hack into the code and remove the ads component...

    Nope, thats the mobile os.

This should be really good, the amount of times I just want to boot up my computer just to go on the Internet. The ability to boot up in a matter of seconds perhaps on a dual boot would be fantastic.

Well, it's open source, so the popular release of it will undoubtedly not have that kind of ad.

In any case, I don't think Chrome will have much immediate impact. The official Google blog post on this said stuff like it'll be originally for netbooks and other small-footprint machines. Microsoft might have to modify its strategy a little bit, but chances are they've already expected Google to come up with something like that. In the future, though, as Chrome develops, we can expect anything from a little impact to a huge impact, depending on the path it takes.
