The pagerank depends upon the number of backlinks and the site content and quality and domain age.It only less depends on the traffic. If you have more backlinks means you will be getting more traffic. So more backlinks gain page rank and traffic to a site.

Page rank is not determined by the amount of traffic coming to your site. It mainly depends on the number of back links your site is able to generate from a higher PR ranked sites! :)

The higher is the PR of the websites linking to you, the more PR juice they will pass on to you, effectively helping you get a good PR rank as well! :)

No. But high traffic may lead to more backlinks which will lead to higher page rank (assuming any backlinks gained are dofollow links).

Very well said. The more traffic you have the bigger are the chances to receive links to your articles if they are worth linking. Other then that, traffic with ranking has no connection..but ranking with traffic does.

The more traffic can be generated through search engines if you have more backlinks. As incoming links is a strategy for promoting your website. So you cannot be fully deny page rank or its importance in getting traffic.

I think if you know somewhat about the page rank formula you wont be have asked that.
Well yes as now a days Google is updating its algorithm every alternate month everyone is having some intuitions that something have changed but up till now i just can say that Page rank only depends purely and completely on your back links. So work on it if you want to increase page rank

Nope, it doesn't increase PR. Traffic isn't dependent on PR so if you have more traffic the doesn't mean you'll get high or increased PR...
Traffic are the number of visitors that come into your site...
PR is the number of backlinks...

Definitely not. Your site traffic is basically a different thing about Page Rank.

Page Rank (PR) is gained base on how many quality backlinks you have.

PR depends upon your quality inbound links.
    PR formula: - PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + ... + PR(tn)/C(tn))
    PR - PageRank
    A - A certain webpage. PR(A) - pagerank for page A.
d - Damping coefficient. The value of this parameter usually equals 0.85
    t1-tn - - Pages that link to page A.
    PR(t1) - Pagerank for page t1.
C - Number of outbound links on a webpage. C(t1) - number of outbound links on page t1.
