Let's discuss about traffic from search engines and social media. It's a simple game that we will be playing, You have to suggest two points it can be positive or negative but one point for social media and one point for search engine. Let's start: SEO traffic: It takes very long time to build a traffic channel through search engines. SMO traffic: Easy to drive traffic in huge amount in short time. Now it's your turn
Social Media Traffic, the bad, bad side – * Requires tailor made posts or exclusive stories to make an impression * Requires a network of social media enthusiasts to help promote * Is not predictable – it’s quite possible that the crowd will bury/thumb down your story * Is not completely sustainable, though a part of it remains * Is possibly less converting if you are into business/service Social Media Traffic, the bright side – * Gives you all time highs on your traffic stats * Give you exposure to new readers/viewers/clients * Sometimes also gives and increase in revenue And Organic Search Engine Traffic – * Is sustainable, gives you equal doses time and again * Is more converting, though less in number * Gives you “plateau traffic†Search Engine traffic on the other hand is like a long term strategy which gives you comparatively smaller doses of traffic, more converting and healthy subscribers on a daily basis. Search Engine Organic traffic really counts how successful you are. It would be a dangerous thing to completely focus on either one of the channels. Ideally, I’d say one should focus on Organic Search Traffic by publishing search engine friendly content on a regular routine and try out the social media channels in between, to give those booster shots. A healthy combo of both search engines traffic and social media traffic would be the key to a successful site/blog.
SMT : Pro : fast and simple. Con: Hit and run type of traffic, u need to build daily. SEO: Pro : stable (i means yahoo, once they index, you there), long term effect and a lot of surprise. Con : difficult to build and forever project to prevent other over take your SERP (google)
Searching engine traffic is better than social networking traffic because once you optimize it for better ranking then you can have good traffic according to the search volume but for social net work traffic you have always work hardly to get home page of that network to get lot traffic.
SEO: better targeted traffic from keywords SMO: you know you are talking to people and can interact with them to find out more of what they want.
I think it all depends on your niche, for certain topics SMO is better (music, trendy stuff, humor) and for others SEO is much better (business services, most products, travel, health)
Ok Here the skinny SEO - a must do even though it takes time and strategy- why because it can and will develop a steady stream to your data base of potential clients for what ever you are selling, or service you are providing. SMO - a must do as well because it has the ability to build large data bases of potential consumers for short and long term business or personal use. After all building your data base is the ultimate goal.
SEO traffic: Search Engine Optimization takes a lot more effort and research in order to pull it off correctly but its very much worth doing. SMO traffic: Research really is still required if you are to pull this one off right and get some conversions back from the traffic that SMO Traffic brings. ~ Mike
Both are good...some social bookmarking equal with search engine, for example digg...people often search some topics by using digg search engine. So...they are good..no one better than another
The other thing to remember is that Google tends to Index DIGG more often than most websites because of how fast its information grows there. I have noticed websites that i have digged to end up within google within a matter of hours and to be getting good ranks as well. ~ Mike
Awesome post, you hit it on the head completely. I find that organic search engine traffic is very high bounce rate but also clicks 90% more on adsense ads than does referrals from all other traffic sources.
SEs - Lasts longer than any site which says they will give traffic to your site. SMs - Give you traffic for just number of days. It's also like a "one day of fame"
I have alot of traffic from Search Engines Today, about 55% percent of it came from Google and Yahoo to a few of my websites. Then another 20% Came from DIGG whilst the rest of my traffic today so far has come from Direct Links (Manual Types into browsers)... That keeps me happy but i believe that Social Bookmarking is always worth it if you have good website content. ~ Mike
