I would suggest you start with keyword research. Just because you'd like a term to rank #1 for a particular keyword does not mean that accomplishing the task is likely.

For example I might invent a cola product to compete with Coke, and decide I want my website to rank #1 for the search term "Coke". Even if this desire is possible to accomplish it would take such an enormous effort that it's probably not worth it.

So what you want to do in the early stages of your SEO campaign is to hunt down so called "Low Hanging Fruit". Look for the easy targets when it comes to keywords related to your niche.

You can start with keyword research using Google's Free Keyword Tool at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

After that look at the SERPs for the terms you are interested in. Check your top three competitors and find out what is there pagerank and how many backlinks do they have? You can check PR and number of backlinks with the SEO quake plug-in for Firefox. It's available at http://ff.seoquake.com/

Also when analyzing your competition consider who has the advantage in term of there on page optimization. Off page stuff does count more then on page, but on page is still part of the equation.

    Good Luck.

I suggest you to concentrate more on getting hyperlinked keywords backlinks to your website. You can try to check your competitors backlinks as well. Most of the links are hyperlinked keywords. And, if you want to rank well in google, make sure the link you are getting is a dofollow. Nofollow link won't get you anywhere in google search engine.

The higher page's page rank is the better to get a backlink from there. Communicate with the site's owner to get a link for you. Or, you can start with dofollow blog commenting.

    Firstly,

I would take a closer look at your domain name. It does not contain any of the keywords (This can be Vital)... But not to worry.

Do some keyword research using This Google Tool to find out more about the keywords on your website and what ranks certain keywords get.

This is useful in choosing the highest traffic words that you might want to get your website optimized with.

Keywords (NOT SPAMMED) ... Should be carefully worded into your pages at a density of 2% - 5% and should be more towards the top of the website.

Write blogs on the related subject (your site) and keep them updated on a regular basis, exchange some links from the blog (Good PR TRICKS) in exchange for a same or similar link back to your website.

This is a three way link exchange and is seen to work better these days than two way link exchanges.

Finally, keep your website content updated and keep working hard on it...

Remember, giving up is selling up!

    Best of luck,
    ~ Mike

It is tough to rank for competitive keywords.

Start small and target the long tail keywords, and then move on to the bigger ones.

why don't you add some adjective to your keywords like cool headlights, big headlights that might help you in ranking 1st in search engines and these days people go for more specific research rather then general one. So, my suggestion is to work on specific keyword rather generalizing the stuff that 'll bring more relevant traffic.

Research what your competitors are using to hit the top off google, a great tool is Overture or Wordtracker (cost to use)

Overture keyword tool ..is not available..for use right? (correct me if i am wrong)
i usually go for word tracker free keyword tool and google adwords keyword tool to trace the trend of a certain keyword.

Note: word tracker free keyword tool only shows you the Top 100 results.

Optimalize your title, keywords, description. Get more backlinks from other sites. You can link exchange or buy it. Free method is comments other blog, links on forum etc.

you need to self study first before asking to others, besides lots of basic tutorials or even more than that available on google.

Its really not easy to get your site on first page on google but its not so tough too. The things you should keep in mind are : hard work and patience. You can gain some backlinks with high PR sites which should relevant too. These will definitely brign your site on first page. You just need to concentrate on your work with consistant output.

At first you need free Links from directory, social bookmarks. Then you can exchange links with other webmasters. Another possibility is to buy links from trust domains.

Yep keyword research, I advise you to find good keywords that have below 150k competing sites to start with, work on them for a bit, that is a good level to start with and when you start dominating for those keywords then by all means research some more competitive keywords and it will then be alot easier for you to rank well for them.

You may think of getting high rankings, but no one can promise that his method can help you appear in the first page of search engine result pages.
These are methods maybe helpful for you.
Optimize your website for both customers and search engines.
Make extensive investigation of your keywords.
Make your website search engine friendly.
Add alt tags to the pictures and links.
Choose high quality and fascinating articles based on the keywords and target customers.
Every page should have a unique page title, and add keywords to them.
