I just put in a forum in my site and i haven't yet tried to get traffic because the site isn't all done but i was wondering how to get people to start signing up for the forum and how to get a community like digital point thanks.
I took one look at the forum through the link in your signature. Why would any one want to sign up for? There is nothing there!. Get some content.
Start posting threads yourself, then hire forum posters. Hiring forum posters is the best method to get a forum rolling. Some may actually stay, and they may refer their friends.

Think about, if I turn up at your forum and there is no signs of activity, I am going to leave and not post. What the point of posting at an inactive forum?
yeah your right that's hwy i was asking how to get people and so forth i mean all these really active forums started with 0 activity so i just wanted to know how to start getting people to post and all that.
Most new forums that exist free from supporting content (an established website), must rely on hired posters or the like to simulate the forums level of activity, no one is going to want to join if there is nothing there. Generally forum posters are pretty inexpensive, depends on the quality of posts and such though. Just be aware that forums aren't a great mechanism for making money, so it's probably best if this forum is a thing of passion rather than an investment because you won't see any decent ROI on it.
no its not for making money i just wanted to create a forum and plus i just want a solid community then i can make money other ways you know what i mean. Im thinking of the long run, right now a just wanted dedicated users to post. also how do i hire forum posters im willing to spend money i just don't want to hire people that post irrelevant posts and make it even worse for me.

The first thing you need to do is to answer this question: Why should people come to this forum? Why should they come here and leave others? And the answer to above questions is in content Not just any kind of content but unique content
There are quite a few people on this forum that offer "forum posting" services or you can use Mechanical Turk from Amazon to find people to start building a post count. People need to see action on a forum before they get involved. We did this for a client in an obscure industry (not techie people) and the response was phenomenal after a couple of weeks. Now that forum gets over 200,000 visits a month. Hiring initial posters was the key here. Regards Sean
This is the most truthful advice you'll find. If visitors show up to a blank forum, or they go to a forum that has topics but only 1 registered user, they are 99% of the time not going to bother. Create 30-50 accounts, add avatars and sigs, and just post content yourself. Create buzz and discussions, and people will naturally join in.

Invite people to join your forum by adding your link to www.Targro.com. This is a free classified ads site and this surely helps. Then do blogging and get involve in other viral marketing strategies.
