Linking Locally

Right now I am trying to drive local traffic to my client's sites. I'm putting him on local directories and such. I'm thinking about putting a few backlinks that don't link to his site, but to one of the blogs that I put his link on - waste of time?

I would just do a few - not make a common practice of it.

Another one would be to social bookmark a blog page with his link on it.

    What do you guys think?

He is asking a question about his link building strategy. He has created backlinks to the client's website itself, now he is asking if, in addition, he should add extra back links behind some of the back links he has already made.

So for example if he got a guest post onto someone else's blog with a link to the clients website, he is asking if he should create backlinks for that guest post.

My short answer: Only if that guest post is not getting indexed by the search engines for some reason. If the page does not get indexed in about a week consider shooting some back links at it to "encourage" the engines to pick it up in their indexing.

I would suggest doing this for your important (high PR) backlinks. If you do it for every link that doesn't get indexed, you'll be doing a lot of work.
