if you submit your PR to 10 PR sites is this good for SEO? Or will it have a negative effect due to duplicate content?
Press releases will get you some backlinks and pretty good exposure, depending on which service you use. PrWeb.com is a good one. The numerous copies which may end up on other sites won't effect you negatively.
Press releases are definitely good for seo. They get you some high quality one way links. If your press release is especially good, it good appear on various trusted news websites. As river stated, you don't have to worry about duplicate content that isn't on your own website.
Press releases are great because they can get exposure to your site and get picked up by news feeds if they are good. They can also give you lots of back links
Press releases are made to be distributed, so if they are done right, you will see them all over. But from a search engine perspective, they are duplicate content, and of little (if any) long term benefit to the publisher. A press release is not about long term benefit, but 'news' - and if you go to Google news, you'll find endless repetition. However, by the time they start appearing in standard Google searches, many, many of them will have been filtered out into supplementary listings, or dropped entirely. There is absolutely no substitute for unique content; and as you don't want stale copy, best to leave them to the news sites.
PR writing and distribution should definately feature in your link building strategy. It can take time to get it right, and it won't work just by itself . . . but it will give you some good clean back-links.
I would say press releases are more usefull for getting the word out there and promoting your site, but can be highly effective for backlinking if they start appearing on dofollow blogs and sites
I created a Press Release and submitted it to one Press Release site - and paid for it. It appeared in Google News straight away - but only if I searched for it. Its been about a week and I've only had about 10 links to the site from the Press Release. It's not the best written PR but it's not too bad. I did add my press release to my blog. Should I remove it because it's considered as duplictate content being on my blog and the PR site?
I don't think Press Release syndication directly helps you in SEO as many of the PR websites don't allow you to add your link in the press release, however, it is good for advertising and promotional purpose.
Press releases - have a look at their sites, they are bombarding press people with hundreds of thousands a day. So are they good for exposure? Can anyone tell me they saw a significant spike (as in more than 1000 uniques) the day after a press release?
I think Press Releases can help if the content is good, interesting and engaging. Try to keep it factual without making it sound like a sales pitch and write for the reader rather than as an SEO exercise. Include maybe 1 link to every 500 words but avoid multiple links to the same URL. Press releases normally need to be approved by the distributor so if it's spammy or poorly written, it will be rejected. At the end of the day, press releases aren't just a means of gaining some links, it could increase the overall exposure to your business and the products / services you offer.
press release will find you explore ur website to much extend.......no submiting 10 PR to different sites will not make it duplicate content...........
duplicate content only occurs on the same website; does different websites with the same text since the rest of the page is different code
I have some pretty good backlinks from prlog and pitchengine. PRs can be difficult. However, using PRs I've been on the first page of Google for over 24 hours for terms like "internet marketing" "adwords" and others. Got THOUSANDS of clicks and dozens of sales.
