#2 in Google for top Keywords!!?

It kind of shocked me to see my site ranking at #2 in Google USA for 2 top competitive keywords. Take a look at the screen shots.

it shocked me because I wasn't expecting it after it dropped to second page recently. I cross checked it in Mozilla which listed my site in a more believable position.

How could this happen? I don't think it could be a cache problem. Anyone knows for real? It can't be real.

My site is typically about two positions higher when I am signed in on Google than when I am not signed in. Even if this is true for you, it's still a great position.

w3master, the true measure of how competitive a term is, is how many searches it receives per month; and how much traffic it delivers to your site. I do not put much stock into the "Results 1 - 10 of about..." blurb on Google's results page. That doesn't mean that you have beaten out 76,999,994 competing pages for your search term. Some of those pages are there by total accident. Not all pages in Google's index are SEO'd to rank. They just exist in the index, and are lumped into the results pages by default.

Some people don't believe the number of pages that pops up on the right-hand side of the Google search results page is legitimate at all. Case in point...

    http://www.stephanspencer.com/search-engines/results-1-10-of-about-23850000000-yeah-right

In this post, he says, "Moral of this story: Don't bet your life on the numbers of results returned by Google. They're most certainly overrepresented."

That said, "abdominal exercises" supposedly has a global search volume of 110,00 per month. If Alevoor receives even 1/10 of that traffic, that can be a huge success. Now that's probably inaccurate, but I don't know how inaccurate Google AdWords' keyword tool may be. I have heard arguments to its validity, as well as to its shortcomings. I don't know the real truth behind the tool.

Yeah your site shows up at the top of the 4th page for me, I think it's because Google weighted it higher since you were logged in and you visit your own site frequently through Google. Good luck reaching that second spot though!

Yes, to put it simply, my keyword phrases are competitive within the niche and that, I think is enough to have decent traffic.

I am looking at this from within the context of my niche and I think it is still good to follow those phrases.

    @All
Thanks. Some of the posts made me smile in appreciation. Thanks for all this.

I think no matter how competitive your keyword is that is doesnt change alot in traffic, alot of page is rank 1 over 80,000,000 searches but still that means nothing into my traffic I think rank alot from millions now, not so many interested compare to having listing with adwords

even a newly created sites can rank much higher than your rank, 1million or even 5 million competitors is not even flattering.

Again, in my experience, the number of results delivered doesn't mean much. It's the amount of traffic you receive that matters. It's not his fault if his niche doesn't deliver 80,000,000 results.

Hitting the top spot, or even the first page of Google SERPs can be a huge achievement, even if the results returned are only 1,000,000. A couple of our keywords return less than 300,000 results, but are still very successful for us.

Another example: One of our most popular keywords has a search volume of less than 9,000 per month; returns only 3,000,000 results in Google; but is a big money-maker for us. This term, searched only one time, and delivering a click to our site, could literally mean anywhere from a $50,000 up to a $2,000,000 sale.

Many new and old sites are much above my site and as a result I am no where near being actually ranked in the first page as you might be thinking I have claimed.

While hitting the top is an achievement in itself, the slow or fast march to the top will never be missed by any webmaster. And this is exactly the reason why I have posted here. If you read my post again, you will see me shocked at the really unexpected position I got on that particular moment.
